About The Position
This position requires the dispatcher to assume responsibility for all shipping activities at our Montreal facility. Train and develop staff to ensure that order shipping is reliable. The candidate under consideration must be able to set expectations for safety, quality, productivity, reliability and service. Reporting to the Director General, the Dispatcher will work with departmental supervisors to establish and/or maintain an appropriate preventive shipment for the efficient operation of the Montreal facility.
Duties And Responsibilities
For each day of the campaign, assess capacity and plan trailer needs. Coordinate and organize loads to meet scheduled deliveries. Prepare the relevant documents for each carrier
- Participates daily in exchanges on the status of the flow of orders.
- Informs shippers of all relevant information (i.e. order(s) and/or loading)
- Evaluates and revises the assembly flow by having the necessary corrections made
- Management of platform lines according to constraints (e.g. space, trailer, separation)
- Find alternatives to orders that come to the dock with a delivery problem (e.g. multiple delivery, overflow)
- Track rejected boxes by making the necessary corrections in the systems.
- Prepare the shipment by Air of packages with dangerous products and ensure that we meet the strict IATA standards (sorting, packing, identification and documentation)
- Match packages shipped off-schedule with product manifests.
- Track the status of the assembly and advise whoever is entitled to the priorities to be given
- Decides daily when a load should be closed and notifies shippers of the instructions to be taken
- Prepares and provides the necessary information for the deliveries of the various transport companies (manifests and electronic documents)
- Ensures the presence of trailers and drivers required by the transport schedule.
- Daily correspondence with different interlocutors.
- Acts as a resource person for people working in Transportation (analysts and supervisor)
- Prepares the order processing priority list (for mail section, representative service and assembly) to promote efficiency
- Maintain the IOPS database and oversee changes to parallel systems
- Ensure the supply of supplies and materials necessary to ship the goods
- Attention to detail with good verbal and written skills in French and English * All other duties as required
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience with High-speed production and automation systems.
- Excellent planning and leadership abilities
- Working knowledge of outbound dock requirements.
- Working knowledge of trailer loads and necessary equipment.
- Detail oriented with good verbal and written skill.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Position requires to be fluent in French and English
- Must have good attention to detail troubleshooting skill
- Must be familiar with standardized health and safety procedures in the workplace * Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Related Industry Knowledge
Education or Work Experience
- High school diploma
- Knowledge of loading docks
- 4 years+ Experience
- Related Industry Knowledge
Health and Safety
- History of working safely and a reputation for promoting and getting involved in safety improvement efforts
- Work in accordance with local/provincial legislation
- Understands and is accountable for full compliance with safety and other EHS requirements Additional Information
- Requires lifting, standing, sitting, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights, bending, kneeling and working with tools
- Position requires daytime hours worked along with an on call ability in supporting the distribution team.
- Must be willing to take after hour’s trouble calls and respond as needed.
