Pomme Natural Market is 100% locally owned and operated a full-service, all natural market currently recruiting an Assistant Controller to work with our Head Office Finance team in Victoria, BC. This position provides flexible hours as well as a permanent hybrid work schedule (Fort Street office in Victoria and/or remote work). The ideal candidate will have a CPA designation and experience using Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains software.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE)
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial entries, documents and reports
  • Manage vendor relations by resolving associate problems and build effective partnerships while staying in compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Complete monthly reconciliations for credit cards and general ledger accounts
  • Full cycle accounting (Microsoft Dynamics GP), including the preparation and review of financial statements
  • Prepare professional correspondence, technical reports, vendor summaries and presentations outlining findings
  • Assist with the preparation of year end submissions
  • Review expenses for accuracy in coding
  • Review and analyze margins and other KPIs to support accounting department
  • Assist with payroll functions including the reconciliation of benefits
  • Provide supervision and guidance to reporting members of the finance team (Accountants and Junior Accountants)
  • Support the Controller and Director of Financial Operations in training junior members of the accounting team
  • Participate in weekly Finance meetings
  • Contribute to Ad hoc projects like “Live Inventory” to implement process improvements and control
  • Additional projects as assigned or directed by the Controller and Director of Financial Operations

Qualifications/Requirements:

If you think you are the right person for this position you will…

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or Finance
  • Have completed your CPA designation or completion of CFE examination and working towards relevant practical experience requirements
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in a fast-paced accounting environment (experience in the Grocery industry is considered an asset)
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains accounting software is an asset
  • Experience using PowerBI, Asana, or other Project Management software is desirable
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Platforms
  • Thrive in a team-oriented environment; must be able to work collaboratively with team members in order to achieve a common goal and develop, maintain and strengthen relationships with others, both inside and outside the Company
  • Self-starter; displays enthusiasm and drive while maintaining a high level of productivity
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent time management skills; must be able to effectively manage multiple assignments and adapt to changing priorities on a regular basis

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
