About The Role:
Reporting to the Project Director, the Construction Manager will be accountable for providing overall site leadership including planning, site coordination, safety and quality oversight, and subcontractor management of major projects such as large healthcare facilities or hospitals. The successful candidate will be an experienced builder who has been solely responsible for managing all aspects of construction on healthcare projects with values exceeding $100 million. The ideal candidate will also have experience working on alternative forms of project delivery, such as design-build, public-private partnerships, and integrated project delivery.
They will have a number of direct reports and the successful candidate will oversee a team of up to 10 while participating in project planning and logistics, project financials, design input, constructability reviews, procurement, commercial project design and preconstruction, project execution and close-out, while maintaining a relentless focus on meeting and exceeding customer needs and obligations. The successful candidate will have the ability to directly manage one large project or provide support and mentoring to site teams on a number of smaller projects.
As a Construction Manager at Graham, you will:
Assist with logistical planning and the development of the schedule during the pursuit phase
Provide constructability reviews of the design documents on design-build projects
Work collaboratively with the preconstruction team to develop the project’s budget
Assist with scope gap analysis
Assist with identification of construction risks
Assist with the development of the Project Execution Plan
Support the subcontracting process including initial scope review meetings, finalizing agreed processes, and assisting with the development of subcontract scopes of work
Oversee, manage, and coordinate the efforts of Field Supervision and labour in the area / discipline assigned
Monitor and control construction activities through effective communication to on-site superintendents to ensure the project is built on schedule and within budget
Participate in project forecast review meetings
Manage all subcontractors to ensure they are meeting their contractual obligations
Anticipate and mitigate potential construction risks
Ensure that the project schedule and close-out checklist are prepared and maintained during the project lifecycle
Support the commissioning activities and ensure that critical elements in support of those activities are ready when required
Establish and maintain relationships and communication tools as needed with suppliers and other key project personnel to verify that materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and personnel are obtained and / or delivered when necessary
Work collaboratively with other Construction Managers to coordinate equipment and material supply issues, solve scheduling and operational issues, and ensure project goals are met
Assist the team in the completion of an organizational and responsibility matrix at the start of the project
Apply expertise to ensure proper project planning, scheduling, staffing, cost control, and management are in place
Support the review of contract documents with field personnel to ensure terms are clear for deliverables, ensuring project work will be completed on time and within budget and in compliance with the contract
Establish and communicate project objectives, critical milestones, budget schedule, and client satisfaction measurements within the boundaries of corporate policy, taking into consideration the broader business objectives of the company
Generate and present concise and accurate status reports for company executives and project-steering committees, detailing status of the project and recommending actions to be taken
Build effective and accurate 90 day and 3-week schedules for own discipline
Recognize and leverage Graham’s techniques and processes for tracking progress on large scale projects
Manage overall cost and profitability of the portfolio or project, including self-performed and subcontracted work
Adhere to the requirements of the owner’s contract, including notifications, schedules, reporting, and costs
Establish and maintain strong and effective relationships with external stakeholders, including public and private sector clients, construction joint-venture partners, suppliers, financing partners, and key specialist subcontractors
Demonstrate HSE and Quality behaviors that reflect corporate expectations of Actively Caring and Road to Zero
Lead, promote, and maintain a positive safety culture within the team, without compromise
Take responsibility for the development, implementation, and execution of the Project Specific Safety Plan as well as your own own health and safety, and that of other workers, visitors to the site(s), the community, and the environment
Understand and comply with client requirements, Occupational Health and Safety regulations, and all applicable government laws and regulations
Review, approve, and close out all incidents to support Continuous Improvement processes and feedback for the HSE MS
Review the Field Surveillance Reports and initiate NCRs based on analysis and severity of findings
Ensure that quality KPI data for the project is documented, monitored and measured.
Most of the work is completed on job sites in an office trailer or an existing on-site structure
This position requires frequent travel
Qualifications/ Education:
Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Journeyman Trade Certification or a related designation is preferred
20+ years of construction experience, specifically progressing your career as a Site Superintendent.
Must have been the lead Superintendent or Construction Manager for a new-build Hospital project with value(s) exceeding $100m.
Experience in design-build delivery model is required
