Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto (U of T) invites applications for an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in the area of Mechanical Engineering starting July 1, 2023 or soon thereafter.
Applicants must have a graduate degree (at least a master’s degree is required) in engineering, the physical sciences, or a related field at the time of appointment; a PhD is preferred. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement existing strengths in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses in mechatronics, mechanical engineering design, solid mechanics, and related areas, to graduate and undergraduate students from across the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. It is preferred that candidates have an undergraduate degree in engineering and be registered, or eligible for registration as, a Professional Engineer.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry, including in the development and delivery of undergraduate and graduate courses, curriculum development, and supervision of student design projects. This will be demonstrated by strong communication skills evident throughout the application process; a teaching dossier to include a compelling statement of teaching highlighting areas of interest, awards, accomplishments and teaching philosophy; sample course syllabi and materials; and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing endorsing excellent teaching and commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and teaching innovation.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
