Club Accountant
The Royal Hamilton Yacht Club is a private, non-profit, recreational corporation, dedicated to providing high quality boating and social activities in a wholesome and friendly environment for the enjoyment and benefit of its members and guests.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for the day-to-day general management of the administrative and full cycle accounting functions of the Club. The position is responsible for the efficient functioning and proper maintenance of financial transactions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, banking, maintenance of general ledger, month-end procedures including preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements and cash flows, coordination of the annual audit, and assistance in the preparation of the annual budget. They work closely with the General Manager and Treasurer in performing their duties.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Timely and accurate processing of club accounting to include member billings, vendor payments and associated Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
2. Assure payroll and month end accounting completed to enable timely month end review and approval of financial statements
3. Maintains integrity of accounting and financial reporting system assuring all information and records are adequately protected and controlled
4. Monitor and recommend policies and procedures for internal controls and efficiencies in the club
5. Jointly responsible with General Manager for Maintenance and Administration of RHYC operating software applications (current = Jonas club administration software)
6. Responsible for the timely processing and submission all government remittances
7. Provide input to annual budgeting process for club administration expenses
8. Ongoing monitoring and reporting of departmental budgetary controls through signing authority policy and variance analysis
9. Prepare and communicate performance of accounts receivable and accounts payable aging
10. Prepare and improve documented procedures and standards utilized by this position (i.e., Month-end and Year-end checklists)
11. Coordination of and reporting required for club year-end financial audit and any ad hoc CRA audit
12. Review responds and acts, where necessary, on all reporting for regulatory or government authorities.
13. Keeps up to date with best practices in the field
14. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
1. Business diploma / degree with accounting designation (CPA)
2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in bookkeeping and full cycle accounting activities.
3. Sound computer knowledge and hands-on experience working with accounting applications
4. Good knowledge of current accounting practices and control frameworks
5. Experience in hospitality or club services industry and working with Boards and volunteers an asset
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
