As an Electrical Engineer, you will work with a cross-functional team to design, build, test, and mass produce a mobile electric robot. The scope of your work will mainly be electrical, but you will be dealing with mechanical and software projects as part of your daily routine. You will be responsible throughout the entire stage of the design cycle, from the initial concept to production.
We are looking for someone who is in the Waterloo region and able to work in-office.
Job Responsibilities:
Work on the design of systems to improve the operations of our robot.
Schematic design of electrical components and connections.
Improving the manufacturing and assembly process of the robot.
Supporting the BOM and ensuring components meet manufacturing requirements.
Prototyping new designs for future projects.
Validating and generating test plans that reduces the risk of product failure.
Oversee the electrical assembly of the fleet ensuring that our robots are assembled in a production-ready way.
Perform electrical troubleshooting on robots as needed.
Debugging the system, including PCBs, wire harness, sensors, etc.
Develop embedded code allowing for actuators and sensors to be interfaced and communicated.
Constantly be improving the power delivery system of the robot as new features are implemented.
Skills/Experience:
Strong background in electrical theory, specifically in power systems and low voltage delivery systems.
Programming experience in C and Python.
Strong communication and debugging skills.
Experience with PCB layout and schematic capture.
Experience with electrical test equipment, soldering, and hand tools.
Nice to Haves:
Experience with high-power mobile robotic applications (including motor controllers, motors, and EV power architecture).
Previous hands-on experience working with electronics in a workplace setting.
Familiarity with digital communication busses (CAN, RS-232, USB, Ethernet etc).
Familiarity implementing and programming of microcontrollers.
Experience with electrical schematics and wire harness layout.
Experience building cable harnesses with various connectors and crimp tools.
Experience with EMC design.
Experience with Linux systems.
Knowledge of ROS is considered an asset.
