Compensation: $34-$36.00 /hour
Hours: 15 hours per week minimum (part-time)
Candidates must be available a minimum of 5 days a week – most student sessions take place after school, in the evening and some clients request weekends, but not often.

Role Overview
As a reading remediation tutor, you will:
· Work virtually, one -on- one, to support students (Grade 1 to Grade 12) in their academic success, who have been identified as having deficits in their reading skills by delivering the organization’s research-informed reading remediation program:
· Communicating directly with families in support of the student’s goals and progress;
· Monitor, evaluate, and communicate student progress, and provide ongoing support and feedback;
· During the school year, work with students after 3pm on weeknights, a 1/2 day on the weekend, during a student’s lunch hour, and early mornings before school begins (i.e., 7:30 or 8:00 am). Summer hours are typically during the day;
· Deliver Evoke’s reading program five days a week, for 30 minutes.
Candidates are required to possess:
· An undergraduate degree in linguistics, an OCT designation, and/or a Communicative Disorders Assistant post graduate certificate
Skills and Qualifications:
· An understanding of the science of reading and the key fundamental principles of reading instruction;
· Experience that provides demonstrated excellence in tutoring, teaching, mentoring, delivering programming and/or curriculum to children and/or youth;
· Exceptional individual initiative, patience, good judgement, creativity, and theory of mind;
· Experience and a significant comfort level working online;
· Tech savvy – hardware computer skills, productivity software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), presentation software (Google Slide), Web applications (Google Docs, Google Drive), basic software skills;
· Familiar with teleconference platforms; Google Hangouts and Zoom, and using online tools (interactive whiteboard, electronic letter tiles) to deliver programming;
· The proven ability to understand and effectively use techniques to engage and motivate students, such as learners with ADHD and ASD, online;
· Excellent communication and organization skills;
· Excellent English language speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Important Information:
· As independent contractors, practitioners set and manage their own hours and schedule.
· Independent contractors are responsible for providing their own tools and equipment (i.e., laptop, mobile device, internet, cost of teleconference subscriptions – i.e., Zoom).
· Evoke does not provide in home services to their clients due to the learning needs of the students we work with, as such tutors must be equipped to work exclusively virtually.
· Successful candidates will need to complete a thorough background check (police check and vulnerable screening), reading skills test, and submit references.
· This is a one-year contractual agreement. Consistent, ongoing support is necessary for our students. Reading tutors are expected to honour the term of their one-year commitment.
· Reading tutors are required to participate in an initial four hour program orientation.
