Reporting to the manager and under the supervision of unit staff, this position performs supportive activities, which contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of the Minor OR, Day Procedures and Endoscopy Units. Duties include but are not limited to, properly maintaining and handling hospital equipment, ordering and stocking the department with needed supplies and assisting in in the stocking of patient rooms on admission and discharge. The Service Worker I works cooperatively with several staff members. The role is physically demanding and involves frequent bending, lifting and carrying of items. The work requires long periods of standing and walking.
As a Service Worker I, you may transport patients (clients, residents) and equipment to and from different units as well as distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, patient charts, and clean patient care equipment. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Good interpersonal and communication skills required. Must be flexible and capable of working independently. Able to prioritize work and cope with frequent interruptions. Excellent organizational skills required. Previous experience in Minor Surgery or Outpatient Clinic required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous Service Worker experience in healthcare environment an asset. It’s Your Move Training preferred.
