What you’ll do
The Executive Director of Employee Experience is a new role reporting to BC Emergency Health Services’ (BCEHS) Chief Operating Officer. This positions will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, and is responsible for ensuring informed, innovative, and consistent strategic People and Culture practices for our workforce of more than 4,000 paramedics, call takers, dispatchers, and patient transfer services. The ED will oversee an impactful, effective and meaningful end-to-end employee experience at all touchpoints during the employee lifecycle – from entry to exit. Working towards the goal to make BCEHS an employer of choice, high-level accountabilities for this role include:
- Oversee strategic planning and integration of People and Culture initiatives specific to the overall Employee Experience including the development and implementation of complex and innovative change initiatives (e.g., culture and engagement, employer brand, employee wellness, DEI).
- Partner with Senior Director, Communications, to deliver clear, inspiring, and proactive employee communications to enhance two-way conversations and invite/implement employee feedback.
- Actively collaborate and innovate with senior colleagues, including the VP and other Executive Directors in People and Culture, in the development and management of goals and objectives.
- Provide strategic leadership, expertise, and guidance to teams, clients and senior leaders. Forecast pending issues/concerns for operational areas and recommend mitigating strategies.
- Lead staff in growing and enriching partnerships with operations and facilitating consensus to plan and deliver excellent, consistent and qualitative customer service.
- Develop and maintain trusting and mutually beneficial working partnerships internally and externally; represent BCEHS and PHSA across various audiences and stakeholder groups including regional health organizations, Health Employers Association of BC, union partners, other central agencies, provincial/national associations, and across provincial networks.
- Develop and monitor annual budget including operating, project/temporary funding or any special initiatives of an embedded operational area; plan and adjust operations and/or staffing to meet projections and annual targets, review and approve expenditures, and prepare summaries for fiscal reporting in collaboration with respective team leaders.
What you bring
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Human Resources or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of education, training, and experience
- 10+ years of related and progressive experience, including 5+ years at a leadership level.
Skills & Knowledge
- Comprehensive knowledge of human resource practices, related legislation and applicable collective agreements.
- Proven ability to create and execute strategic People and Culture plans, and influence change and decision-making at senior levels of an organization.
- Seasoned senior leadership skills focused on coaching and inspiring a diverse team through change while maintaining unity, motivation, commitment and effectiveness.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive internal and external partnerships and respond to needs while supported by an acute awareness of the impact of actions.
- Proven experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of operational and strategic plans including experience preparing and managing budgets.
- Understanding of various reports including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), In Plain Sight, Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
- Models and supports full team commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism.
- Demonstrates humility and heart-led leadership.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
