ALSTOM Looking for Transit Power Systems Analyst at Kingston, ON Full Time

Purpose:

• Carry out the general design and the global optimisation of the transport system, from performances (at the system level) point of view. To carry out this task, he will use the system simulations tools package available within the Unit.

Accountable for:

• The coherence of the simulation input data and the verification of the output results at Simulation Team level. Ensure that the results verification and simulation report content is done within the team with the Manager and with other team members

Responsible for:

• Perform power system studies to support the dimensioning and design of the transit system’s electrical power supply infrastructure such as; Load Flow, Short Circuit, Harmonics, Power Factor, Protection & Coordination, Arc-Flash, and Energy Consumption and Optimization studies.
• Prove by using specific calculation tools the compatibility between the performances of the system offered and its operational goals. Simulation of the operation in normal and degraded modes.
• Ensure that the subsystems functional specifications include the necessary elements to achieve the system performance.
• Issue Simulation Reports for tenders and projects.
• Develop attractive technical tenders documents (graphics ,colors…) able to obtain the customer’s understanding and confidence.
• Collect necessary input data and be able to translate it to the standardized simulation format.
• Propose basic hypothesis for technical operation whenever relevant data is not available.
• Propose new ideas to the Projects and test these ideas against time scale and budget of project execution and tender preparation.

Knowledge & Experience:

• University degree in Electrical Engineering (focused on Power Supply and Distribution Systems)
• Knowledge in railways simulations (traffic, power supply,…) and experience in railways system design.
• Be open to innovative engineering, new equipment, methods, tools.
• Listen openly and regularly to the Projects needs.
• Fair knowledge of the subsystems included in a Transport System and understand the consequences of the operations and maintenance constraints on the power system design.
• Understand the principles and outputs of the simulations (Train Performance, Operation Simulation, Power Supply Simulation, Fleet dimensioning, Signalling,…), and draw the consequences on the system design.
• Good written and verbal English skills are mandatory.
