As a Food Service Worker you have the opportunity to make a significant impact on patient focused health care as a dedicated member of the Nutrition Food Service (NFS) team. NFS is a provincial service that is committed to providing nutritious, healthy, high quality meal service to patients, residents, staff, visitors and the community. Accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient and customer experience. Up to 7.75 hrs. with min. 3:00 hour paid shift length. Scheduling will be dependent on availability. Start times vary with 6:45 as the earliest start time and 4:45 pm being the latest shift start time. Latest shifts end at 7:45 pm. Opportunities available for either day-time and afternoon shift coverage and/or both. Casual status is non-benefit eligible with no guaranteed hours. Evening Differential of $2.75 applies to all hours worked after 3:00 pm on any day of the week. An additional $3.25 Weekend Premium applies to all hours worked after 3:00 pm on Friday plus any & all hours worked on Sat. & Sun. shifts. Must be avail. to work either Christmas & Boxing Day OR New Years Eve and New Years Day. Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, employees use strong customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to complete the Food Service I Role: Hot and cold food preparation. Meal tray assembly. Tray delivery to and from patient rooms. Stocking of food and supplies to nourishment centers. Complete ware washing. Retail/Cafeteria: Cash handling & customer service. Complete cleaning duties in the kitchen & dish room. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment. Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. Complete other food service duties as assigned.
As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Preferred Qualifications:
Food service & customer service experience. Experience in a hospital or long-term care environment. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates and minimizing waste while utilizing ‘First In, First Out’ procedures. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment. Food Safe Certificate or equivalent. WHMIS training.
