Salary: $21.07 to $26.34 per hour

The Medical Administrative Assistant I will be supporting the Division of Orthopedics with its Rapid Access Clinics (RACs). THe successful candidate will utilize knowledge of medical terminology and exercises judgment or decision-making to provide secretarial and clerical services, in support of professional/medical personnel, including: providing word processing/typing services for assigned personnel; performing reception responsibilities; maintaining written and/or electronic calendar/schedules; administering and monitoring billing procedures and budgeting records; providing support with small and/or informal meetings/events; maintaining and modifying confidential medical electronic/paper filing/retrieval methods, systems, and/or formats; providing functional supervision to lower classified clerical position(s); ensuring the efficient operation of the office; performing other related clerical activities; performing cross-functional responsibilities, as assigned; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required. This position will also require data entry support for Provincial and local reporting. Reconicilation of invoices and billing associated with our integrated care programs will be required. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong teamwork skills with ability to adapt and be flexible to changing needs in support of clinical and patient care.
Completion of Grade XII or recognized equivalent
Completion of recognized medical office administration program at the diploma level or equivalent
Completion of a medical terminology course
Minimum 2 years related medical administrative support experience
Previous on-the-job computer/word-processing, database and spreadsheet software experience, in a Microsoft Office Environment and EPIC preferred
Strong computer literacy required – databases, MS Excel, multiple systems
Understanding of OHIP billing
Strong command of medical terminology
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Exceptional organization and time management skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work well under pressure
Ability to use good judgment and clinical reasoning in assessing difficult situations
Ability to work independently and as a team player
Experience working in a health care environment preferred
Experience working in a teaching hospital environment preferred
Knowledge of general office practices, procedures and standards
Vaccines (COVID19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights code
