The Role
We are reshaping software and controls in the automotive industry and transforming into a technology-based company, and this role is a big part of the change!
We are looking for highly energetic and creative thinking professionals with a strong technical foundation. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively within a high-performance team in order to lead our technology transformation in advanced controls and software.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of new and advanced control systems for future vehicles utilizing new technologies like eAWD, eLSD, Active aero, Rear steer etc. Our software development strategy will enable application to a broad range of platforms starting with future performance hyper-cars!
The candidate ideally will have deep knowledge of Model Predictive Controls (MPC) and be able to communicate deep technical topics easily and to a wide audience. This audience includes, but is not limited to, collaborators in the United States and key University partners. Experience and knowledge of embedded controls and software development processes is crucial to success.
Key Responsibilities and Your Mission
Spearhead the development of advanced control systems and associated software together with a team of specialist in electric propulsion and other actuation systems
Drive new initiatives/strategy in your technical domain by contributing to our technology roadmap as well as cross-collaborating with multiple teams in the process to ensure viability.
Where appropriate contribute to technical coaching, development and mentorship of team members.
Develop creative and innovative solutions and protect the intellectual property through patents and publications (this is also incentivized by GM)
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of project management plans, resource, and timing requirements
Championing control requirements stemming from Simulink models and test cases
Continuously work towards improving efficiency within the group by improving processes, quality and mentoring group members.
Development Hardware in the Loop (HIL) benches and vehicle test strategies
Conduct and support peer reviews
Lead and contribute to root cause of all control software applications related issues during testing and validation phases
Ensure work is completed as per the milestones with excellence
Responsible for compliance with GM processes and safety procedures
Travel requirements of 2 to 4 weeks a year are typical, primarily to Michigan and other locations in the US.

Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
Extensive experience developing control systems and associated software (5-10yrs)
Proficiency with control system theory and application to embedded systems including state vector feedback control, adaptive control and model predictive control
Comprehensive knowledge of chassis vehicle systems as well as new energy vehicle architectures
High level of analytical ability with unusual and complex problems
Proactive/results drive individual with high level of initiative and individual accountability
Excellent oral and written communication skills
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Ability to work independently and in a team environment, interfacing with GM engineers globally
Ability to travel to the United States and a Valid Canadian driver’s license
Preferred Skills and Experience
Masters or Ph.D. in Control Systems Engineering (or equivalent topic)
Experience with embedded C programming, Matlab/Simulink modeling and code generation
Experience (academic and/or professional) with Model Predictive Controls
Working knowledge of vehicle dynamics and performance vehicle characteristics
Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software and hardware requirements and interfaces and associated experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS, DNG, JAMA etc
Experience in automotive product release and specification process
Knowledge of other automotive systems (Powertrain, driveline and CAN/LIN communication), advanced test setups (dSpace HiL etc. ) as well as in vehicle track testing
Experience with vehicle dynamics modeling and CarSim
Experience with advanced statistical analysis, signals processing, filter design, optimization, system identification and advanced state estimation methods
