Summary:

Primary Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager of Information Technology, the System Engineer will maintain a reliable, secure, and efficient end-user environment. The ideal candidate will be able to deploy, configure, and maintain end-user applications, monitoring, and alarming elements, as well as server/infrastructure environments on-premises and on various cloud systems and providers.
- Incident management.
- Maintain and lead ticketing system best practices and changes.
- Provide support to Infrastructure initiatives with MS Active Directory, GPO, O-365, Azure, VMware, and N-Central. backup, antiviruses, etc.
- ITIL service desk evolution.
- Support, configure, maintain and upgrade staff computers.
- Key escalation contact for case management products Frontline & Caseworks.
- Install and integrate new or existing applications.
- Research and recommend IT platform release notes and upgrades/updates.
- Administer third-party applications.
- Ensure end-user security and connectivity.
- Define and administer user access control best practices as defined by the agency.
- Resolve end-user services problems and incidents.
- Provide level 2 support services to agency-wide systems and designs.
- Review ISIT policies and procedures for continuous improvements.
- Implement and advise on system requirements and approved agency design solutions.
- Develop automation and optimization of end-user systems and management tools.
- Support all Department initiatives where needed.
- Provide support to Infrastructure initiatives with MS Active Directory, virtualization, backup, etc.
- Maintain and lead ticketing system best practices and changes.
- Are familiar with enterprise Change Management processes and systems, prepared to lead on evolving change processes.
- After-hours support.
- Coaching IT and other staff on agency policies and support methodologies.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
- College/University Degree and 5 years equivalent work experience.
- Pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
- Troubleshoot moderate to complex issues across the breadth of the O365 solution.
- Certifications such as ITIL 4, A+, Network+, CCNA, MCP, MDAA, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, Windows 10/11, and Azure.
- Professional Ticketing systems: Service Desk Plus, Service Now, or Remedy.
- Service Management process flow validation and testing.
- Extensive application support experience with Microsoft Office Suite of Applications. Visio is an asset.
- Knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure.
- Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, and strong documentation skills.
- Experiential knowledge of Indigenous culture in an urban environment.
- Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Travel- estimated 20%.
- Be available for escalation after hours as required and/or on-call as reviewed with the Manager.
- Highly self-motivated and directed. Keen attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the NCFST’s Mission and values into practice, service, and relationships.
- Demonstrated understanding of Workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, tact, and sensitivity, and build strong internal relationships.
