The Opportunity

The successful candidate will be responsible for software development for autonomous driving and active safety for Lateral Controls and Vehicle Motion Estimation algorithms. This position involves a combination of analytical, in-vehicle and laboratory analysis, along with related performance verification. Portions of the role may include in-vehicle calibration.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct robust feature validation using unit testing, SIL/ HIL and in-vehicle performance testing to ensure that production anomalies are minimized
• Drive software and calibration changes to meet desired performance and functionality by raising baseline performance to desired levels and reducing calibration effort
• Develop and provide accurate control strategies for automated/ autonomous driving features for quantifiably measuring the performance of lateral controls and vehicle path algorithms
• Develop Simulink models, software requirements documentation, and test cases
• Conduct software verification work (unit testing, simulation, and in-vehicle)
• Participate in the software change management process.
• Maintain the latest performance on test vehicles and management of vehicle test fleet
• Develop advanced control strategies for automated/autonomous driving features, including advanced lateral controls and vehicle motion estimation algorithms
• Develop Simulink models, software requirement documentation, and test cases
• Support production calibration activities and the resolution of field and customer issues
• Conduct software verification work (unit testing, simulation, and in-vehicle as needed)
• Participate in the software change management process
• Conduct and support peer reviews, AFMEAs (Algorithm), and DFSS projects
• Develop creative and innovative solutions and protect intellectual property through patents and publications
• Travel requirements of 2 to 3 weeks a year are typical, primarily to Michigan and other locations in the US

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or Mechatronics/Software/Electrical/Computer Engineering
• 2+ years of experience developing control systems
• Automotive simulation and validation experience (HIL/ SIL)
• Knowledgeable in vehicle dynamics and controls theory
• Experience with software design, Simulink modelling, and embedded C/ C++ programming
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• High level of interpersonal skills and ability to work well with other team members
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment, interfacing with GM engineers globally
• Valid Canadian driver’s license
• Able and willing to work Hybrid (Remote/On-Site) while COVID-19 protocols are in place

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced skills in control systems design: robust, adaptive, nonlinear, and model-predictive controls
• Experience with functional safety and ISO 26262
• Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
• Knowledge of embedded control systems and industrial/automotive hardware controllers for ADAS
• Familiarity with vehicle dynamics simulation packages (CarSim and CarMaker)
• Experience providing guidance and mentorship to team members
• Experience working with Agile/Scrum development processes and tools
• Ability to travel to the United States
