Position Overview:
LawDepot.com is currently expanding and looking to recruit a Software Development Manager in Edmonton, Alberta. Working with the Information Systems team, you will be responsible for performing both technical leadership and people management to create new functionality for our legal software platform. This is a full-time permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week with opportunities for a hybrid work schedule.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage Software Developers, Technical Leads and Scrum Masters working to deliver an exceptional experience for our millions of users
- Oversee all development activities and ensure the high-quality delivery of projects
- Provide direction and guidance for multiple software development teams with a variety of skill specialties
- Develop high level strategy and deliver technical roadmaps
- Set team objectives, successfully produce deliverables, regularly evaluate results, and conduct performance management
- Plan future expansions and contribute to architecture guidance
- Manage project schedules, scope, work estimates, and ensure deliverables are on time and within budget
- Working with senior management, adjust job position specifications as appropriate to keep up with current business requirements
- Establish development team best practices and create training material to enable greater efficiencies and continued growth
- Ensure teams are managing their technical debt
- Review planning material, architecture designs, code and provide feedback
- Train, coach, and mentor employees to develop a high-performance team
- Lead code reviews, share knowledge, provide feedback, and brainstorm ideas
- Research new tools, technologies, and processes to identify opportunities for the department
- Communicate progress updates to the team and all required stakeholders
- Collaborate with cross functional departments to determine business requirements and technical specifications
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Post-Secondary Education in Computing Science or equivalent
- 7+ years of experience in Software Development and Leadership oriented roles
- Demonstrated track record of delivering technology projects
- In-depth knowledge of development best practices
- Ability to manage people, projects, and process
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced knowledge with our core technology stack: C#, .NET (5+, Core), TypeScript / JavaScript
- Additional knowledge in the following areas:
- Database (LINQ, SQL, Entity Framework Core, Object Oriented);
- JavaScript frameworks: Vue 3 (preferred), Angular, ReactFlexible content and configuration systems driven by JSON and soft coding;
- .NET Web APIs (or REST APIs), Unit Testing frameworks;
- SCSS (or CSS, LESS, SASS), Git, HTML, JSON
- Drive to achieve objectives
- Good business acumen, common sense and the ability to understand company needs
- Knowledge of design patterns and best practices
- Experience conducting code reviews and providing valuable feedback to developers
- Familiarity with Agile processes and Azure Boards
