As of March 2022 Loblaw has adopted the following Hybrid working model (a combination of working between the office and remotely). Colleagues will continue working remotely up to 2 days a week, while spending the other 3 days in the office.
Job Description:
As an HR Co-Op Student, you will have the opportunity to support up to 3 HR departments as you rotate throughout the term of the co-op. You will be responsible for providing support on the daily functions in the department as well as various initiatives and projects. This role will support the Retail HR, HR Tech, and Labour Relations departments.
You will continue your education through hands on experience, and you will have the opportunity to complete some of Loblaw’s great e-learning courses, attend workshops, training sessions and seminars.
Retail HR: What You’ll Do:
  • Provide support in giving guidance, direction, and support to the client group in employee relations issues, including company policies & procedures, recruitment & selection strategy, performance management, job evaluations, terminations, training & development.
  • Support the HRBP team in day-to-day partnership with client group to provide advice and counsel to colleagues on HR related issues and concerns; and support the rollout of various programs/initiatives
  • Support the HRBP team in the roll out of various HR programs/initiatives (i.e.. assessments, culture, colleague engagement survey and HRIS program).
  • Responsible for admin work including drafting letters; payroll inquiries; updating colleague information in Workday; headcount tracking and org chart updates; colleague engagement survey analysis, reporting, score carding; presentation deck preparation; research, analysis and implementation of programs, reports and projects as required.
  • Compile data for compensation recommendations and partner with the compensation group to manage the administration for the annual incentive and merit review process for the client.
  • Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable HR federal and provincial requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements & best practices to influence human resources strategies.
  • All other admin support as required
HR Tech: What You’ll Do:
  • Learn about and support the scoping, design, and deployment of Workday features and enhancements with a focus on HCM to ensure that our Workday platform delivers a positive user experience.
  • Support the team to ensure our Workday environment’s integrity and overall system operation through ongoing product expertise, enhancements, support, testing, training, and troubleshooting.
  • Support multi-year product/enhancement roadmap/backlog for COE
  • Work with the team to plan, scope, and deploy enhancements/initiatives in collaboration with Process lead, development team, and other broader People Technology and business resources
  • Support in the implementation of based on stakeholder needs, ensuring solutions return stakeholder value and business results
  • Conduct research using Workday’s online courses and Community forum on various documentation and configuration to provide support
  • Promote reporting automation, self-service, and a culture of data-driven decisions
  • Support development and execution of strategic analytics & reporting initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
Labour Relations: What You’ll Do:
  • Provide administrative support and assist with the tactical deployment of key LR initiatives currently underway. You will act as an added resource to ongoing workstreams focused on delivering key objectives.
  • Grievance arbitration and collective bargaining negotiations. You will work directly with members of the LR team and assist with the preparation of grievance and collective bargaining files, attend arbitration proceedings and collective bargaining negotiations, and provide administrative support as required;
  • Support information based LR processes, including research, data management, file digitization, ad hock reporting and analysis. You will assist with the coordination of these activities to support related LR functions.
What You’ll Need:
  • Attending Post-secondary education preferably in Human Resources or Industrial Relations and must have completed 3rd or 4th year studies
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Strong integrity with ability to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information
  • Solid computer skills required in MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Strong understanding of databases and the tools used to report/monitor them
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication (written and verbal)
  • Customer focused and able to nurture positive customer relationships
  • Highly organized and has a high degree of attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills and superior ability to problem-solve
