Position Overview
The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Fixed Term Research Coordinator for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Program Manager of the Pediatric Emergency Research Team.
Research work will include but is not limited to: coordination and management of an ongoing multi-site, multi-national, clinical trial; coordinating bio-specimen collection and testing, oversight of documentation, collaboration with the Data Coordinating Centre and multiple stakeholders, and submission of funding agency reports (National Institutes for Health (NIH)) and coordination of payments to sites. Additionally, patient enrollment and data entry work at the local site may be involved.
This position involves research work and will be located on-site at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Leadership and Communication
Provide primary support to the project Principal Investigators, identifying key strategic and governance issues, planning meetings, preparing reports and papers for consideration, and ensuring their decisions and requests are addressed and implemented
Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Principal Investigators as appropriate
Analyzes issues, and defines project objectives, scope, implementation plans, resource requirements, and timelines. Designs and manages all assigned phases of projects and programs
Provides input into the day-to-day operational aspects of a project/program, including identifying and resolving issues and conflicts. Prepares project/program related communication (e.g. reports, briefings, correspondence, presentations, etc.)
Project Operations and Maintenance, includes but is not limited to
Study maintenance
Contract management and maintenance
Protocol management
Maintain and update informed consent forms, source documents worksheets and case report forms, as applicable
Ethics application, ongoing renewals, amendments, and termination, as applicable
Regulatory document management
Site and staff training
Ongoing quality assurance process and documentation
Complete close out procedures
Recruit eligible participants for research projects in-person and via telephone
Data Management – ongoing data management for numerous studies including but limited to
Creating databases with the help of external service providers and support teams
Data entry, organization and maintenance
Abstraction of data from existing databases and medical records
Data cleaning
Collect and maintain data logs
Adverse Event (AE) management
Budget/Resource planning and management
Accountable for fiscal management including expenditures and sound bookkeeping/accounting procedures. Administer funds according to approved budget and monitor monthly expenditures
Provide the funder with a comprehensive report on project expenditures
Monitoring of budgets for the research including operational activities consistent with the plans and general guidelines
Tracking invoices from sites and ensuring payment within an appropriate timeframe
