The Waterpark Operator is responsible for water safety and quality in the Waterpark and Deep Sea Adventure by monitoring chemical levels, maintaining the filtration systems and chlorine gas systems as well as the maintenance of the exhibits and holding tanks, filtration systems, and collection of organisms in the Marine Life department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining the treatment systems and operate the filtering and chemical treatment process to ensure that proper chemical levels are within acceptable standards.
  • Performing the required checks on flow meters, filter beds, tanks, and all other system pumps and motors to ensure that all equipment is operating within prescribed limits and Government Standards.
  • Cleaning pump strainers, perform backwashes on all water systems, degrease and pressure spray filters, and remove blockages on pump packing drains as required.
  • Ensuring safe delivery of chlorine gas to the required systems and change chlorine tonner and cylinders as required.
  • Monitoring inventory of pool chemicals or supplies, and ensure that supplies, materials and products are ordered and received.
  • Arranging work orders for servicing and repairs or equipment and assist skilled tradespersons with the installation and repair of Waterpark Machinery.
  • Performing general maintenance and troubleshooting of Marine Life Facilities including minor repairs and basic carpentry.
  • Performing general cleaning and maintenance of quarantine holdings and of live exhibits, tanks, and displays.
  • Performing multiple daily routine assessment rounds to check exhibit conditions, animal health and life support systems status.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of water changes and chemical balances is ongoing and with strong attention to detail.
  • Ensuring cleaning of entire facility is ongoing and any necessary cleaning supplies are stocked.
  • Maintaining filter systems by pressure washing and changing filter material.
  • Running errands from picking up building, tank, filter, salt, and food supplies.
  • Ensuring salt levels are correct and replenishing when needed.
  • Other responsibilities as required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Pool Operator level (1) or level (2) certification.
  • A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years’ experience in the water filtration field or industry.
  • Candidates that possess certification in workplace hazardous materials information systems (WHMIS), or any related courses in safety practices are a definite asset.
  • Applicants must be comfortable working in close proximity to animals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, ability to work at heights, strong attention to detail and great problem-solving skills.

Terms of Employment:

  • This is a part-time position that is open to a flexible work schedule including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.

Salary: $20.90 per hour
