Our Niagara area client is a successful manufacturing company. Due to unprecedented growth, they are adding a Cost Accountant to the team. Note that this role is 100% ONSITE
The Role
The Cost Accountant reports to the Finance Manager. The Cost Accountant is responsible for all aspects of the standard costing process and inventory management. You will also perform financial analysis, investigate variances and report on monthly KPI’s. The Cost Accountant plays a key role in the budgeting and forecasting process.
What do you bring to the role?
You have 3+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment. You enjoy collaboration with departments across the organization. You are a go-getter who does not hesitate to pick up the phone to investigate strange and unusual variances. You are eager to learn and enjoy going into the production facility to learn the business and understand how the company’s products are made. The ideal candidate has experience with large ERP systems (SAP would be a slam dunk). There will be a lot of data mining and manipulation, so strong Excel skills are a must.

Responsibilities include:
– Review Bills-of-Material and Labor Routings for accuracy and quality
– Maintain Master Data for existing parts and support in the creation of new parts
– Work with local management in performing inventory analysis related to monthly adjustments and cycle counts
– Help coordinate annual physical inventory
– Re-cost sales orders in weekly pre-releases and settle production order errors
– Prepare and record monthly general entries as part of closing process
– Yearly revalue of all made-in-house materials
– Calculate overhead and labor rates in ERP System
– Prepare and analyze financial and non-financial KPI’s
– Monthly variance reporting and recommend areas of improvement
– Assist in the preparation of Budgets and Forecasts
– Support Audit functions with documentation and other associated materials
– Support Local and Regional Finance teams with projects and ad hoc analysis
Requirements of the Role:
– Post-Secondary accounting diploma or degree preferred
– 3+ years of experience in progressive cost accounting role
– Strong ERP (SAP preferred) background with sound understanding of manufacturing, job cost and accounting modules is required
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
– Experience preparing financial cost data and expert knowledge of accounting and financial practices
– Advanced level MS Excel skills
– Experience in implementing and managing internal controls
– Excellent communication and organizational skills
– Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
