Apatisiwin Employment Counsellor

Job Posting – Full Time Position

JOB SUMMARY:

The Employment Counsellor is responsible for providing opportunities for clients seeking employment and training services, developing, furthering and enhancing contacts within the community that support the Apatisiwin program and clients, and ensuring that the employment unit roles and responsibilities are carried out. This position will collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, and coordinate services and support in consultation with individuals and partnering programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Relevant college or university accreditation and / or relevant work experience in the area of training, development, and employment services.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the area of employment and training initiatives.
• Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ISETS) and current trends in local labour market.
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture and experience working with Indigenous persons; understanding of the northern cultural environment; knowledge of an Indigenous language(s) will be considered an asset.
• Ability to develop intervention contracts, funding submissions, and related documents.
• Excellent finance skills and attention to detail; accounting experience considered an asset.
• Ability to engage, build trust and rapport; effective verbal and listening communication skills.
• Ability to plan, coordinate and implement learning pathways and interventions.
• Excellent public relations skills and thorough knowledge of community resources.
• Group facilitation, team building and decision-making skills; ability to problem solve and take initiative.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills, must have ability to meet deadlines.
• Effective crisis intervention skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including database applications.
• Self-motivated individual with ability to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented setting.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evening and/or weekends.
• A clear Vulnerable Sector Clearance is a condition of employment.
• Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Salary: $48,000 per annum
