About the Role

We are recruiting for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Merchandising team. This role will be working under the Manager of Merchandise Planning & Analysis and will be the Merchandising team’s subject matter expert as pertaining to product costing, category mix and product margins from the perspectives of forecasting/budgeting, actual performance, and variance to forecast.

This role will be responsible for developing forecasts for product cost, category mix and product margins and further collaborate with the Financial Planning & Analysis team to build forecasts for sales and product margin. This individual will then leverage dashboards/ reporting to drive variance analysis to understand key drivers behind forecasting variances and subsequently to enhance forecasting methodologies based on related learnings.

The Ontario Cannabis Store utilizes Power BI to develop and maintain its suite of dashboards as well as purpose-built reporting. In addition to their duties discussed above, the Senior Financial Analyst will be the Merchandising team’s lead in all Power BI reporting, acting as an owner for the team’s reporting workspace in development and maintenance of reports.

About Your Day

  • Prepare performance dashboarding providing visibility to senior leadership within the Merchandising team as well as periodic overview reporting to the entire Merchandising team
  • Develop detailed analysis in key merchandising-related areas including but not limited to sales performance, seasonality, price action impact, complimentary SKUs and inventory with a focus on identifying actionable insights that will support the team in achieving its performance objectives
  • Provide purpose driven reporting to Merchandising team members to support specific focused analysis as the need arises
  • Prepare variance analysis on execution against key performance metrics to drive actionable insights, identifying key drivers and refining forecasting methods in order to aid the Merchandising team in achieving targets
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement assisting with ad hoc requests, participating in special projects as required, and providing cross-functional support as needed
  • Lead contact for the Merchandising team pertaining to all Power BI reporting and dashboards including ownership of the team’s workspace
  • Perform maintenance on all reports within the Merchandising team’s workspace, liaising with Data Science, IT and other departments as required to resolve any issues that arise in report operation
  • Prepare the Merchandising team’s inputs into the annual budget and monthly forecast in terms of product pricing, product margin and category mix based on historical trends, current state and factoring in anticipated trends
  • Represent the Merchandising team during budget & forecast review meetings, discussing sales and profitability performance and projections

About You

  • Completed Post-Secondary degree/diploma in Finance, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, reporting and dashboarding.
  • Strong knowledge and experience developing dashboard and reporting in Power BI is required
  • Advanced Excel skills, intermediate level skills in Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience creating SQL scripting and reporting (asset)
  • Experience in product analysis or equivalent roles (asset)
  • Sound organizational, analytical, judgement and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally, communicate effectively and develop and deliver presentations
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced environment with changing priorities

Remote Work

  • This position offers a Hybrid work schedule. You will be required to be in the office a minimum of 1 day each week, with the ability to work from home for the remaining workdays (subject to specific business needs requiring office attendance).
  • When working from home, a reliable internet connection is required. Remote work is supported with cloud-based applications and collaboration tools (i.e., MS Teams)
