Aston Carter Looking for Intermediate Budget Analyst at Vancouver, BC Full Time

Aston Carter is seeking a Budget Analyst to work for a 3 month duration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the development and maintenance of the annual general purpose operating and consolidated budget, quarterly forecast, general financial analysis and for the timely preparation and presentation of all related reports.
• Prepares ad hoc analysis of financial, budgetary and statistical information; responds to complex budget enquiries from departments and from management; monitors budget to actual differences and follows up on over-expenditures; prepares budget system entries, uploads, transfers and reconciliations.
• Prepare ad hoc and monthly analysis of financial, budgetary and statistical information, requiring the synthesis of data with reference to dependencies and inter-relationships, for both internal and external use.
• In consultation with the Associate Director and the Senior Budget Analysts, identify and prioritize yearly budget activities. Identify problem areas for follow up with corrective action.
• Prepare and analyze data to support the quarterly and year-end financial reporting process.
• Develop alternative operating budget scenarios through use of simulation modeling techniques to continuously evaluate the best ways to fund the operations. Models are used to best estimate levels of funding and levels of activity that the funding can support.
• Prepare comprehensive financial analyses, planning reports and forecast as requested both within and external
• Engage in business process review and reengineering to enhance budgeting process.
• Access financial information throughout using financial extract tools. Interpret and analyze reports generated from the administrative systems.
• Participate in the formulation of operating and consolidated budgets.
• Prepare and analyze data to support the budget process.
• Prepare complex financial and project based financial analysis to support senior management decisions. (Example: evaluating the financial impact of operational changes, or reallocations of revenues, etc.)
• Research, prepare and present comprehensive financial planning reports and forecasts to support senior management decision making.
• Participate in the design, development and implementation of administrative systems projects to improve financial reporting and monitoring tools for the administrators.

RELATIONS WITH OTHERS

Consult with non finance individuals on budget matters. Position provides primary liaison function with departments for the purpose of administration and control of detailed operating budgets.

Work closely with Administrators in monitoring budget to actual results throughout the year. Evaluates the correspondence from Departments to ensure reports and data is reliable.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

MUST HAVE:

• 3+ Years in full cycle accounting/financial analysis role in a large organization (100M$+) working with balance sheets, income statements, analyzing large variances, quarterly reporting, and budgeting
• Experience with Variance analysis – identify and investigate
• Experience (Hands on) with Budgeting and Forecasting
• Experience in a Large Complex Environment
• Advance Excel (v-look ups, pivot and sum ifs)
• Strong Communication & business writing skills – Some requirement to converse reports/data within team
• Exceptionally organized
• Hit the ground running with minimal training

NICE TO HAVE:

• Accounting Designation or Enrolled in CPA, or MBA
• Work Day or Large ERP System (SAP, Oracle etc)
• Hyperion and/or Adaptive Software experience
• Experience working in a crown, quasi crown, public sector, or unionized environment
• Public accounting standards
• Experience in an Audit Firm
• Government Funding Experience
• Preparation of financial statements
• Skills with MS office, especially PowerPoint

SOFT SKILLS

• Team player
• Ability to work independently – minimum supervision/training
