This is an exciting new position at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton that will address urgent Social Work needs across the site; including afterhours Emergency Department, ICU/CCU, Women’s health, and general medicine/surgery 7 days a week. This position will work evening shifts from 1300-2115 hours weekdays and weekends on a regular rotation with another social worker. The responsibilities of these positions may include crisis management, supporting urgent/time sensitive discharges, time sensitive outpatient assessments, working with families and/or next of kin across the site including ICU, child intervention and bereavement in women’s health, and initiating new assessments for emergency inpatients. This position will work within the larger RAH social work team where supervision, support, and mentorship are available. Working collaboratively and as part of a multidisciplinary team the Social Worker II is involved in the provision of Social Work services to patients and families.
As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Additional Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have at least 1 year experience in an acute care hospital of significant size, experience working in women’s health, physical medicine and have excellent knowledge of Edmonton area community resources. This position will require a social worker with very strong organizational, critical thinking, problem solving assessment and intervention skills, and who is able to be self-directed. Minimum education considered is a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW or MSW required). Experience working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team is required. The candidate will have proven communication skills to work cooperatively and effectively with the health care team members, patients and their families in a fast-paced environment. Strong professional judgment, initiative, and effective time management skills are necessary. The ability to work with various computer programs and systems is a requirement.
