As a strategic partner to the business, the People & Culture Business Partner Manager acts as a trusted advisor, coach and primary contact to leaders and teammates with Andrew Peller Limited assigned business units. This is a player-coach role in that the incumbent will be a direct business partner to certain business units and also lead a team of two Business Partners who support the remaining business units. This role collaborates closely with People & Culture subject matter experts in Talent, Compensation and Benefits, and Payroll to identify, develop and advocate for the needs of the client’s group, drive business unit performance and mitigate Human Resources matters through effective critical thinking and ensuring resolution. The role will support assigned business units to develop and implement a people plan aligned to deliver on the business goals of the function including deploying, retaining, engaging and developing talent.

This role will be hybrid work from home with a regular requirement to work onsite at our Grimsby, Oakville and Niagara on the Lake locations.

We are looking for a teammate with:

• A university Degree/college diploma in business along with a specialization in or a professional Human Resources designation
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive Human Resources experience as a Strategic HR Business Partner
• Previous experience working as an HR Generalist with expertise in several human resources areas including strategic planning, performance management, recruiting, staffing, pay and benefits, compensation, organization design, classification, employment equity and labour and employee relations
• Comprehensive knowledge of Employment Standards Acts, Human Rights Codes and related WCB/OHS regulations
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence others and build cooperative relationships
• Demonstrated success in business partnering, change management and coaching
• Competencies that include interpersonal, innovation, collaboration, mediation, coaching, conflict resolution and organizational skills
• Exceptional communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative on challenging issues and to be proactive
• Energetic team player who thrives in a collaborative work environment
• Demonstrated ability to critically analyze issues and provide objective options/recommendations
• Personally aligned with APL’s values and able to effectively demonstrate these values
• Competent MSOffice user and experience with HRIS

This teammate will be accountable for:

• Acts as a single point of P&C contact for assigned business unit managers & teammates.
• Provides strategic input and support to assigned BU leaders to grow bench strength; optimize organizational design and champion change management across all levels of the organization.
• Works in partnership with cross functional People and Culture teammates to meet business needs including communicating and implementing HR programs and key annual processes. Examples include performance management & coaching, talent engagement, employee relations processes, organizational development initiatives and recruitment & selection.
• Regularly monitors the effectiveness of national HR programs, processes and services, and raises concerns, and provides feedback to the Centre to drive continuous improvement based on business needs.
• Has a deep understanding of the teams. Understands and articulates clients’ business strategy, challenges, and opportunities.
• Provides employee relations advice and direction to mitigate and resolve HR issues or concerns. Assist employees navigating personal issues that impact the workplace.
• Key contributor and in some cases project lead in the design and development of BU specific and/or national P&C initiatives that align with the company’s corporate and P&C strategies.
• Discerns insights and trends from information and data and leverages them to identify opportunities for change that will deliver value and impact to the business.
• Serves as primary contact for HR related provincial regulatory bodies and HR legal counsel for assigned BU’s.
• Manages termination, layoff, and reorganization processes including settlement negotiations for assigned BU’s (consult EVP, HR when required).
• Leads occupational and non-occupational disability claims and work re-integration for assigned BU’s and manages aforementioned claims.
• Serving as a trusted advisor; provides appropriate guidance to resolve complaints of harassment/discrimination, or other serious employment related allegations (including Respect in the Workplace complaints/investigations when required).
