Heartland Generation is one of Alberta’s largest power generators, supplying more than 2,660 MW (gross) of power for the benefit of industrial, commercial and residential consumers.
Our balanced portfolio of contracted and merchant facilities provides reliable and efficient baseload power, as well as dispatchable generation with the ability to meet peak electricity demand. At Heartland Generation, we are focused on building a better bridge to a clean energy future through our innovative decarbonization strategy. As the first large-scale power generator in Alberta to transition completely off coal and one of the largest cogeneration operators in the province, we are now driving toward further industry decarbonization and our goal of net zero by 2050.

Reporting to the Manager of Stakeholder Relations, the Regulatory and Permitting Advisor is a key member of Heartland Generation’s Battle River Carbon Hub (BRCH) project team.
The Advisor will play a key role in identifying, advancing and tracking regulatory and permitting requirements for the various components BRCH project – hydrogen production, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and power generation. This role will work alongside other members of the project team and Heartland Generation staff to support the technical components of the BRCH project.
The BRCH project is in the early stages of development, and the successful candidate will be required contribute to a variety of project plans, and provide expertise on permitting requirements and pathways in support of the project. This includes work to integrate regulatory and permitting requirements into the project schedule, contributing to project development activities, and working with regulators and permitting agencies that fall under the hydrogen, CCS, and power generation components of the project. The successful candidate will also play a role in identifying and managing regulatory risks associated with the project.
The Advisor will be required to build and maintain relationships with external and internal experts, representing the BRCH project and Heartland Generation with various regulators, permitting authorities, and contractors supporting the project.

This position is located in our Head Office in Calgary, Alberta. Currently, this position is eligible for our Hybrid Work Arrangement schedule whereby some remote work from home days is optional.
