Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Recreation Dance Instructor in Parks and Recreation. The Summer Recreation Dance Instructor leads dance programs for a variety of age groups. The instructor must plan, choreograph and teach dance classes to campers who may vary in their abilities and experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Daily duties such as greeting participants,
- Leading activities,
- Ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants,
- Organizing equipment and supplies,
- Preparing for activities,
- Distributing and collecting permission slips for outings
- Participating in staff meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Current technical and practical training at an advanced level in one or more of the dance disciplines (ballet, breakdancing, jazz, tap, hip hop, modern, theatre, creative movement, and other forms of dance)
- At least one season/summer of experience working or volunteering with preschoolers/children/youth in a recreational setting
- At least one season/summer of demonstrated program leadership skills
- Knowledge and understanding of Healthy Child Development
- Previous experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities
- Current certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR an asset
- Successful completion of all training requirements (Including High Five and WHMIS) prior to start date
- Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Casual/Seasonal – June 20th, 2022 to August 26th 2022
HOURS OF WORK: Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule
SALARY: Non Union, $14 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)
WORK LOCATION: Citadel Community Centre, Captain William Spry Community Centre
