Financial Controller

This position is integral to leading new business initiatives, strategic planning, financial modeling, and takes responsibility for analyzing the business unit’s profitability, including reporting, forecasting, and budgeting, in addition to ad-hoc analyses and special projects. This position works cross-functionally with senior leaders of multiple departments, acting as both an advisor and the primary finance resource for decision making.

Role Responsibilities

• Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions
• Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information
• Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies
• Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling entries
• Summarizes financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss, and other statements
• Finance lead for reporting, budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning processes
• Perform ongoing financial and operational analysis of business segments to assess performance vs. budget and forecast, while identifying risks and opportunities, in partnership with the operational leaders of the business
• Build and maintains dynamic financial models to support business decisions by senior management
• Lead and manage the enhancement and refinement of dynamic financial models to assist operational teams with planning future business objectives and growth strategies
• Provide financial and analytical support for special projects as directed by senior management
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills while meeting tight deadlines.
• Ability to drive results with minimal supervision
• Key ambassador for the organization’s reputation within the community
• Develop and implement the financial policies, internal controls, systems and procedures
• Prepare and coordinate accurate financial statements, summaries, profit and loss, variance analysis, and other cost-benefit analyses and financial management reports
• Revenue reporting and projections for multiple divisions, broken down by business units
• Weekly and monthly cash flow reporting
• Expense reporting for multiple divisions
• Coordinate the financial planning and budget process, and analyze and correct estimates
• Preparation of year end papers and liaison with external auditors
• Supervise the development and implementation of financial simulation models
• Notify and report to senior management concerning any trends that are critical to the organization’s financial performance.

Role Requirements

• Post-Secondary Degree or diploma in Business Administration Accounting or Finance
• CPA designation required
• Willing to relocate and be in-office 5 days a week
• In depth knowledge of full-cycle accounting, cost analysis, inventory accounting, budgeting, and forecasting
• Knowledge of various accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and ERP systems
• Experience with Sage is an asset.
• Experience with intercompany transactions and reconciliations an asset.
• Background in hospitality or not for profit industries is a benefit.
• Proactive and effective communication – ability to communicate with internal and external personnel, liaise with multiple stakeholders and prepare professional presentation documentation.

Compensation: A comprehensive compensation plan will accompany the successful candidate. The annual base salary range starts at $90,000 per year and will be decided based upon experience and qualifications.
