Job Description
As Assistant Director of Engineering, you will assist in leading a department that is responsible for the iconic and historic Fairmont Royal York. The hotel is on a journey to become Canada’s first luxury Carbon Neutral hotel in 2023. This position is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the hotel and its mechanical and electrical infrastructure with a focus to improve efficiency, reliability, and meeting the Fairmont service standards. Inspiring and leading a team of 40 colleagues and build relationships with external contractors, the Assistant Director of Engineering will be a proactive leader of the Department.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Assisting the Director of Engineering in oversight of policies, standards, and procedures for engineering service excellence
Supporting and coordinating an effective preventive maintenance program for hotel areas. This includes but is not limited to guestrooms, public areas, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, building operating equipment (generators, air handling units, fans, fire system, vertical transportation, escalators)
Partner with the projects and field experts on the journey to Carbon Neutral building operations in 2023
Responsible for relationships with contractors as required to assist in the servicing of the building operations
Support labor management, standards, and controls
Assist in the recruitment of Engineering Dept. positions
Training Programs for Engineering Colleagues
Utilization and continuous improvement of Synergy MMS
Monitor and analyze utilities consumption standards and evaluations
Provide monitoring and supervision on all engineering operations
Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety standards at all times
Support sustainability initiatives by Fairmont, Accor, and ownership
Assures adequate periodic inspections are occurring as well as reporting on the condition of physical plants by the engineering team
Provide recommendations for capital improvements
Qualifications
Engineering degree in Mechanical/Electrical or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Building Operations and/or Engineering
Full understanding of customer service in the hospitality/building operations sector
Demonstrated leadership, dynamic personality, excellent interpersonal skills, a reputation for integrity, and a proven role model.
Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems including BAS systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Physical Aspects of Position (included but not limited to):
Frequent sitting throughout shift
Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
