Position: Senior Accountant
Reports to: Controller
Location: Hybrid. The Partnership’s head office is in downtown Toronto. Candidates can work anywhere in Canada.
Status: Permanent
Job Level: $80,624 – $109,080 per year; Compensation offered will be based on an assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, while ensuring internal equity.

The Partnership’s Finance and Corporate Services Division leads all services to secure a sound financial platform and ensure that the organization has the technical, operational, infrastructure, talent management and change management capabilities necessary to achieve the maximum impact for its mandate and budget. The team works alongside all divisions in managing financial aspects of programs and initiatives that aim to deliver on the eight priorities of the2019-2029 Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control (http://www.cancerstrategy.ca/) .
The Senior Accountant supports the Finance & Corporate Services Division in carrying out projects and initiatives to achieve organizational priorities. Reporting to the Controller, the incumbent coordinates and provides support to deliver on program/project objectives. As a highly organized professional with strong time management skills, this position delivers on the tasks of the job while contributing to CPAC’s overall vision to reduce the burden of cancer on all Canadians.
Financial Accounting
Performs general ledger accounting functions, analysis, financial reporting and general process improvements
Prepares analysis and working papers in support of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements as well as other reports as required
Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations related to the balance sheet, revenue and expense accounts, including bank and other reconciliations, capital asset, investment, cash, payroll accounting, and project funding
Prepares expense accounts based on financial analysis to ensure proper recording and support cost
Prepares project in progress statements to ensure payments to the partners are on track to support outcomes
Assists with cash flow management by preparing analysis and cash management reports as required
Assists with the preparation of annual and five-year corporate plans, compensation budgets and continuously monitors actuals against budgets.
Assists Controller with preparation of quarterly financials for reporting to all internal stakeholders by diligently working with the Financial Coordinator
Collaborates with finance team and others to review quarterly and year-end financials and provide variance analysis
Prepares legislated quarterly and annual filings in compliance with Canada Revenue Agency e.g. sales tax (HST) and payroll remittances, federal corporate income tax return (T2), Not-for-Profit Organization Information Return. Supports preparation of compliance reports to the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee
Supports program teams by providing financial advise and presenting the complete financial statements for review and decision making purposes. This includes ongoing financial analysis of budgeting and forecasting and working with internal and external stakeholders resolve any issues that arise
Prepares ad-hoc financial reports utilizing reporting tools in the ERP system
Assists the Controller, department, division, and others as required
Works with the Manager, People and Culture to submit the bi- weekly payroll and prepares related journal entries
Reconciles Ceridian payroll reports to the general ledger and prepares payroll general ledger reports
Prepares and reconciles pension deduction and payments and reports annual pension adjustments
Collaborates with other team members to complete the annual payroll filings required by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), including T4s, T4As and reconciliation to the general ledger
Contributes to the development and implementation of accounting control systems and procedures
Assists with the development and implementation of policies and practices to ensure financial reporting and all financial and accounting transactions comply with professional standards and organizational policies
Assists Controller in external audit, preparing necessary documents and analysis
Performs other duties and ad hoc projects as required

University Undergraduate Degree in Accounting, Commerce or business administration, or other relevant discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience, preferably in the non-profit or healthcare sector. Education or experience with First Nations, Inuit and Métis is an asset
CPA designation preferred
Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive)
Experience or knowledge of ERP (Agresso) and payroll software solutions (Ceridian)
Bilingual in both English and French is an asset
