Position Overview
The Food Truck Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operations of CSSI’s Food Truck services. The Food Truck Supervisor also provides support in other food services functions and locations as needed.
The Food Truck Supervisor provides supervision and direction to other staff in the coordination of food services within Conestoga Student Services Inc. (CSSI). In carrying out supervisory responsibilities, the Food Truck Supervisor must cultivate and maintain a diverse and inclusive environment in which the variety of participants’ backgrounds, experiences, places of origin, racial/ethnic identities, sexual identities, gender, ages, and more are heard, respected, and valued by everyone.
This position reports directly to the Sr. Manager, Food & Hospitality. In carrying out the duties of this position, a great deal of responsibility is exercised with final overview by the Sr. Manager, Food & Hospitality. It is also important that the Food Truck Supervisor works extremely closely with the Sr. Manager, Food & Hospitality to ensure that they are up to date on the basic overall operations of CSSI’s food services functions. In all activities, it is crucial that the Food Truck Supervisor recognizes that service to employees and students is a top priority.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervision of Staff
Manage the overall operations of CSSI’s Food Truck service
Supervise the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of the Food Truck team, including (but not limited to) scheduling, team motivation, performance management, and disciplining/terminating where required in conjunction with the Sr. Manager, Food & Hospitality and Human Resources department
Create and monitor weekly work schedules for Food Truck staff
Train and supervise all new and current Food Truck staff (and other food staff as needed)
Ensure Food Truck team members are maintaining order and adhering to the schedule as outlined
Edit and approve hours of work, submitting bi-weekly timesheets to the Human Resources department
Ensure all employee documentation is accurate and submitted to Human Resources
Assist in the recruitment and selection of qualified candidates for all Food Truck positions
Ensure quality food, beverage, and customer service are provided to the students and faculty of Conestoga College, ensuring food items are made in a timely manner and of the highest quality, expediting orders where necessary
Ensure all Food Truck staff complete all required legislative training and onboarding procedures in collaboration with Human Resources
Food Truck Operation & Maintenance
Operate the Food Truck safely and efficiently according to all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures in a manner that minimizes risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life
Adhere to the food truck operational bylaws of each municipality and maintain professional relationships with bylaw enforcement officers
Complete daily safety and maintenance checks
Perform all minor maintenance duties as needed such as checking fluid levels, filling the fuel tank, disposing of soiled water, etc.
Advise the Transportation & Maintenance Coordinator of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
Clean the Food Truck as scheduled and/or required
Ensure the Food Truck is stored safely and securely
Maintain Food Truck inventory weekly and assist in the ordering of kitchen equipment and food items
Respect the space and property of the locations on which the Food Truck may operate
Report patron counts to the Sr. Manager, Food & Hospitality on a weekly basis
Inform the Sr. Manager, Food & Hospitality of any concerns or issues that arise
Food Services
Prepare food and drink items in accordance with the provided specifications/recipes
Operate propane grills and other kitchen equipment
Take orders and serve guests in accordance with CSSI’s guidelines for excellent customer service
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the products and pricing of food, beverages, and specials
Operate cash register to accept various types of tender from guests, provide proper change to guests, balance cash drawer and receipts, and document discrepancies
Count and handle cash with accuracy
Count till before every shift to ensure it contains the correct starting float amount
Complete accurate opening and closing reports
Track inventory and restock/store when needed
Maintain a clean and safe work environment to ensure the health & safety of guests and coworkers at all times; clean and sanitize all work areas and frequently touched surfaces before and after every use, including (but not limited to): inside and outside of Food Truck, preparation area, cooking equipment, storage areas, floors, service areas
Work as a team with fellow Food Truck crew members
As needed, serve alcoholic beverages to catering event patrons in accordance with all relevant laws and policies
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required to support other CSSI food service areas (e.g. during winter months when Food Truck is not operational)
Other General Duties
Work in accordance with corporate by-laws, policies, and procedures, particularly to the CSI Mission Statement
Adhere strictly to health & safety laws, policies, and procedures
Maintain confidentiality for business practices
Work in an organized manner where detail, accuracy and confidentiality are critical
Mandatory attendance at CSI related training days
Complete organizational/special projects as assigned by the HR Generalist
Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Physical Demands
This position spends long hours standing and walking, which can cause muscle strain.
Lifting of supplies and materials up to 30lbs will be required.
Environmental Conditions
This position performs work primarily in a busy, enclosed kitchen area and will be faced with frequent interruptions on a regular basis. The work environment may experience elevated temperatures. Travel to various locations and performance of work from home is required as needed. Work may be required after office hours and on weekends.
Sensory Demands
This position requires long periods of intense concentration on multiple completing priorities, which may cause stress and requires visual focus, attention to detail, and high levels of accuracy. This position will also be exposed to food-related fragrances, high temperatures, and sometimes bright lights.
Mental Demands
This position is expected to manage and meet multiple simultaneous deadlines, which can cause significant stress. The incumbent also deals with a wide variety of people on various issues.
Qualifications
Must currently hold a valid ‘G’ class driver’s licence
Must be able to provide a clean driver’s abstract
Must be able to complete Smart Serve training and Food Safety Training Certification before beginning primary duties
Candidates will be asked to demonstrate the following:
Strong understating of best practices and legislation related to food preparation and customer service
Understanding of basic processes in recruitment, training, and employee relations
Understanding of business operations and of best practices for operations and task management
Understanding of transportation-related rules, regulations, and best-practice
Knowledge of best practices in team motivation and employee engagement
High level of confidence and comfort with speaking about CSSI’s services and food offerings
Ability to create and edit documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF
Ability to write emails and documents in a formal tone
Accurate data entry with ability to screen for transcription errors
Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to address and resolve staff performance issues while considering the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion
Ability to conduct mechanical troubleshooting and perform minor repairs (asset but not required)
High level of organization and time management in handling multiple simultaneous priorities
Cultural competence and ability to show respect to students who come from a variety of socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
