York Region Looking for HR Coordinator – Pension and Benefits at Newmarket, ON Full Time

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinates timely benefits and pensions processing and tracking for enrollments, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, leaves, retirements, disability, and life claims.
• Creates and distributes materials for new employee orientation and provides education to all staff on benefit and pension program.
• Educates team members, managers, employees and retirees concerning issues related to the Region’s benefits and retirement plans to ensure consistent and accurate understanding of policies and procedures.
• Ensures an efficient process, answers employee questions, and communicates with carriers and vendors regarding changes and/or issues. Provide customer service support to internal and external customers.
• Serves as liaison between employees and vendors regarding policy interpretation and resolution of problems.
• Identifies and resolves discrepancies with benefit and pension plans ensuring accurate reporting and billing of benefit plans;
• Updates communications to enhance understanding of the Region’s benefits plans by updating and maintaining the portal Pension and Benefits pages and other materials as a result of bargaining, legislated changes and employee frequently asked questions.
• Provides information on procedures and costing on pension and pay-outs.
• Performs work in accordance with the policies, procedures and applicable legislation.
• Documents and maintains administrative procedures for benefit and pension processes.
• Oversees maintenance including retention of employee benefits files, maintains group benefits database and provide updates to payroll.
• Performs other duties, as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or related discipline or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in Human Resources in a unionized environment, with the emphasis on employee benefits, pension and compensation implementation.
• Demonstrated knowledge of group benefit plan policies and procedures and implementation processes.
• Knowledge of HRMS Operating System.
• Demonstrated ability in the Region’s corporate core competencies.
• Excellent computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft office applications.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to present information and resolve issues/problems.
• Demonstrated time management skills to set priorities, work with accuracy and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team.
• Ability to exercise discretion, judgement, empathy and diplomacy and to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Ability to travel to offsite locations, as required.
• Ability to work outside regular working hours.
