Job Summary

In accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic direction of IMITS, safety, including both patient and employee safety, is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at IMITS Agencies/Divisions/Services, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Reporting to the Director, Information Security, the Education and Awareness Specialist is responsible for clearly and effectively explaining complex information security concepts and promoting the secure behaviors necessary for information protection both internally to employees and externally to customers, partners, and the general public. The role is to help identify and manage human risk to the organization by ensuring all employees, staff and contractors know, understand and follow the organization’s security requirements and behave in a secure manner

Duties/Accountabilities

• Lead operational activities for the security awareness program and ensures it meets all industry regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
• Responsible for the communication of the organization’s security policies and requirements so that people know, understand and can follow them.
• Identify the top human risks to the organization and the behaviors that need to change to mitigate those risks.
• Accountable for identifying any roles requiring additional or more specialized training and ensure those roles receive it.
• Create, maintain, report and support an annual communications strategy.
• Monitor information security industry news and blog posts for internal and external educational opportunities
• Write communications for our employees, contractors and partners to inform, alert, and educate based on the communications strategy and requests from the IMITS Security team.
• Develops and maintains explanatory materials such as presentations, videos, blog posts, and other materials in support of the communication strategy for IMITS.
• Ensure that the security awareness program identifies the scope of who needs to be trained in the program.
• Design clear and compelling diagrams, charts, and related graphics that illustrate complex security concepts and technologies to be used in materials supporting the communication strategy.
• Maintain and keep the educational content on the IMITS Security POD website up to date and fresh.
• Support other business stream teams in their efforts to explain complex security concepts and technologies in their materials.
• Participate in cyber security incident response and investigations as appropriate

Qualifications

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Superior writing and editing: This is a content-heavy role. The candidate must be able to distill complex and difficult concepts into easy-to-understand, “on your side” communications, and can easily “de-geek the speak”. Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills in all mediums and throughout all levels of the organization. Strong self-motivation, self-management, and time-management skills.7-10 years’ experience writing and designing educational material for employees and customers. Webinar and public speaking experience is a plus. Professional experience using social media tools such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+, and Yammer for corporate communications; experience with blogging tools like WordPress, Tumblr, and Blogger is a plus. Design experience and familiarity with design programs (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) a plus. The ability to work under pressure, prioritize workflows, meet targets and escalate when appropriate..
