Position Summary:
The Office of Safety and High Risk at the University of Toronto is a tri-campus office that is mandated to address high risk and safety concerns related to University students, staff, faculty, librarians, and institutional reputation. The Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Support’s mandate is to implement the University’s Policy on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (Policy), develop and deliver trauma-informed programs, services, and resources related to sexual violence prevention, support, and response for the University of Toronto community.
The Case Manager works under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Director, High Risk, Sexual Violence, Case Management and Investigations. The Case Manager is responsible for the intake of Reports under the Policy; manages, monitors, and supports the progress of sexual violence and sexual harassment cases through the Report, assessment, investigation/facilitated resolution, decision-making and concluding phases; and provides regular updates to Complainants and Respondents. The Case Manager is the University’s point person on the Report for both the Complainant and Respondent, as well as any other offices whose work intersects with or contributes to the process.
The Case Manager will be committed to deeply embedding anti-oppression and trauma-informed practice principles in their work. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that processes conducted under the Policy are fair, transparent, and timely. The Case Manager is the primary point of contact for Complainants and Respondents with respect to the accountability (adjudicative and non-adjudicative) processes under the Policy. The incumbent answers questions about the processes and provides regular updates to Complainants and Respondents. The incumbent also acts as the primary point person for other offices whose work contributes to or intersects with the University’s sexual violence reporting processes.
Primary responsibilities include: managing all aspects of a sexual violence report, from the initial intake to the concluding stages which will include meeting with Complainants to conduct Report intakes; providing updates and information to Complainants and Respondents throughout the sexual violence reporting process; providing procedural support to investigators and facilitators; drafting formal communications; meeting with Complainants and Respondents to deliver formal communications; ensuring that Complainants and Respondents understand the sexual violence reporting process; providing guidance and advice to different stakeholders on sexual violence investigations and non- adjudicative resolution processes; supporting decision-makers by providing case information; and when required, monitoring to help ensure that agreements, sanctions, and resolutions are complied with.
Additional responsibilities may include working in collaboration with a broad range of offices both internal and external to the University to develop and implement ongoing educational programs and outreach initiatives to better communicate processes related to the Policy.
The Case Manager is expected to exercise excellent judgment and professional discretion in all matters and consult with the appropriate individuals as needed. The incumbent is also required to exercise a high degree of thoughtfulness, responsiveness, and confidentiality regarding very sensitive issues.
