The energy industry is undergoing rapid and dramatic changes, transforming the utility landscape to enhance safety, reliability and sustainability. In response, Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Solutions team to tackle the complexities of decarbonization and utility modernization to deliver a cleaner and more secure energy future. We have multiple positions available for electrical engineers seeking to apply and develop their skills working closely with our utility clients and operations teams as we expand our energy transition portfolio.

These openings provide the opportunity to engage with our clients to modernize, expand or harden their utility systems in North America. Demonstrated abilities include a broad understanding of electrical engineering sciences as well as materials and construction practices. Prior experience in the design of high voltage utility substations will be highly regarded.

Your primary responsibilities will focus upon providing feasibility studies, construction documents and construction oversight for high voltage utility substation projects. You’ll be expected to possess strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

· Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or related engineering discipline

· At least 4 years of experience in design or consulting for the utility industry

· Demonstrated ability for developing design calculations, construction drawings and specifications.

Other highly regarded qualifications include Professional Registration as well as experience with:

· HV and EHV substation planning and design

· Equipment and layout

o Various substation configurations (i.e. ring bus, breaker-and-a-half, etc.)

o Equipment sizing

o Grounding design (CDEGS software preferred)

o Lightning Protection

o Lightning Studies

· Protection and Control / SCADA

o Understanding of protection philosophy for both lines and equipment

o Protection Coordination studies and relay setting

o Experience with SCADA, RTU, and networking (including IEC 61850)

· Renewable energy projects including wind, solar, hydro, geothermal and other technologies

· Energy storage systems

· Engineering license (PE)
