ABOUT THE ROLE
Our Canadian Healthcare Programmers play an integral role in the design process, partnering alongside architects, clinicians, strategists, and designers to transform client visions to reality through a design-centric approach. The ideal Healthcare Programmer will possess the ability to solve critical problems by utilizing their unique skillsets in strategic facilities Stage I master planning, and Stage II functional/space programming, as well as knowledge of Lean/operations improvement.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Demonstrate proficiency in clinical processes across medical campuses, including major inpatient and outpatient departments.
Work with clients and end users to outline optimized process flows and critical adjacencies of clinical spaces.
Work with clients and the MOHLTC-LHIN to satisfy the Joint Review Framework for Stage 1 and 2 submissions to satisfy MOH/ and regional authority requirements for Facility Development Plans as described in the Capital Planning Toolkit.
Attend Clinical Services, Master Programming, Architectural design and LHIN/MOHLTC meetings as required to ensure a smooth and comprehensive Stage 1/2 submission is prepared and receives LHIN and Ministry endorsement.
Understand and guide discussions on medical equipment and technology needs.
Lead the healthcare planning process with clients and the design team to create strategic campus master plans and departmental level master plans.
Lead the healthcare planning and programming process within the design team to create functional and space programs, along with department floor plan concepts reflective of operations.
Manage the deliverables for the healthcare planning team within the greater project deliverable schedule.
Communicates healthcare expertise and planning concepts to clients and project teams, both verbally and through graphic and written reports.
Serve as the main point of contact for the client on planning issues.
Actively seeks new knowledge in the design and planning of medical and healthcare facilities.
Actively participates in industry associations to ensure visibility.
Mentor staff for depth and support of the specialized knowledge execution process.
Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service including business development and sourcing new work.
ABOUT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
At least a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Architecture or other applicable field required plus 10+ years of professional experience in the field. Master’s degree in Business Administration and/or Hospital Administration preferred.
Demonstrated experience working with clients and the MOHLTC-LHIN on at least three (3) projects in the last five (5) years to satisfy the Joint Review Framework as described in the Guidelines including but limited to:
Ensuring a smooth and comprehensive Stage 1/2 submission is prepared and receives LHIN and Ministry endorsement including the coordination, development and production of all documentation required to satisfy the MOHLTC-LHIN Joint Review Framework
Document analysis, factors considered and recommended options that satisfy all MOH/ and regional authority requirements for Facility Development Plans as described in the Capital Planning Toolkit
Directing/developing program and service volume projections that take into consideration market assessments
Creating baseline and future inpatient and ambulatory clinical service plans that inform related program design concepts to inform Master Programming and Master Planning in line with future facility goals
Estimating overarching program and service resource requirements (inpatient bed need forecast by program and service category, inpatient and ambulatory operating/procedure rooms, ambulatory care treatment areas and exam rooms, etc.) taking into consideration best practices and utilization benchmarks
In-depth knowledge of clinical workflows, healthcare delivery systems, current trends, and national and regional benchmarks required.
Experience documenting meeting minutes for all clinical services planning, data analysis and master programming/functional programming meetings.
Lean certificate, training, or other relatable certifications preferred.
Good knowledge of healthcare trends / best practices and Evidence-Based Design.
Strong knowledge of CSA Z8000/FGI Guidelines preferred.
Experience with organizing and conducting clinical end-user meetings.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Tableau is a plus.
Must be able to work in a team environment and possess strong organizational and time management skills.
Travel as required.
