Program Overview –Language Programs, Community Programs
It is the goal of the CNC Program to encourage the social, physical, intellectual, cognitive, and emotional growth of each child through a balanced use of high-quality activities and experiences. This position is responsible for contributing to the provision of quality services to children under care in accordance with policies and procedures, and all applicable legislation, while promoting a balanced and equal partnership between parents and staff.
What You Will Do
- Take the lead in meeting CNC requirements of using a child-centred approach in providing care for newcomer children by planning, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate programs.
- Follow all requirements and practices per CMAS and organizational policies.
- Maintain all required documentation to demonstrate compliance with CMAS guidelines.
- Plan and oversee appropriate activities for children in accordance with program philosophy. Set reasonable limits according to the child’s developmental stage, and give appropriate direction, encouragement, and support individually and in groups.
- Responsible for registering children in the program while ensuring that child-to-staff ratios are maintained as CMAS requires.
- Ensure all participants provide the required medical and health-related documentation.
- Develop and implement support strategies with the team to ensure adequate support for special needs children as required.
- Ensure daily safety, health, and hygiene of the children at the CNC space. Responsible for completing accident and incident reports when necessary.
- Responsible for updating daily, weekly, and monthly checks of safety space, fire drills, toy recall log, and monthly schedule.
- Coordinate with other program coordinators to ensure CNC attendance is on track.
- Provide parent orientation as well as volunteer/placement student orientation as outlined by CMAS.
- Perform required program documentation duties such as attendance form, child information form, and session management form (program activity).
- Assess equipment needs, purchase, and upkeep equipment/furniture.
- Report any signs of physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse of any children in care.
- Support the Program Supervisor in CNC staff hiring and provide orientation and training to new staff.
- Foster teamwork among staff in the provision of CNC & Perform other related duties as required.
- Train, assist, and evaluate the work of volunteers and placement students for successful program integration & participate in team/unit meetings when required.
- Upgrade training and education as directed by WoodGreen to fulfill the responsibilities of the job.
- Ensure the organization’s anti-racism objectives and community development principles are achieved within the program.
What You Bring To The Team
- Completion of a two-year ECE diploma from a recognized Community College.
- Registration in and valid current membership in good standing with ECE College; proof of yearly membership must be submitted.
- Three (3) years of experience working in the childcare field.
- At least One (1) year of experience as a lead childcare worker.
- Current first aid and CPR certification.
- Professional Certification–must be in good standing with relevant professional recognition bodies.
- Current health assessment including immunization and proof of tuberculosis status

- Understanding of settlement issues and the distinctive needs of newcomer children and families & understanding of child-centred programming.
- Knowledge of research and practices specific to young children, including special initiatives relevant to immigrants and refugees.
- Ability to implement programming and make changes that are beneficial to young newcomers.
- Ability to coordinate multiple programs, including programs being offered at the same time.
- Willingness to work in conditions involving exposure to bodily fluids (including saliva, urine, feces, and blood) and potentially infectious diseases.
- Ability to carry/lift children and carry/lift/move moderately heavy items.
