Position Summary:

SBM is currently seeking a Mechanical Technologist Co-op in our London office for an 8-month term. The successful candidate will assist the Mechanical Engineering Department with the mechanical building systems design in the residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors. The candidate will be required to work with the mechanical design and engineering team in producing designs/drawings for permit and construction. The candidate will be expected to work both independently and within the project group to facilitate the design requirements to reach project completion. The candidate will also be encouraged to take on special project tasks to help promote efficiencies of current design procedures and will have the opportunity to attend occasional site visits.

SBM has offices in London and Kitchener, providing engineering services to a variety of private and public sector clients across Southwestern Ontario. The firm employs over 120 engineers, engineering trainees, technologists, technicians, planners, and administrative personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design of mechanical systems and components
  • Coordinate with the engineering team and other design disciplines as required
  • Assist with engineering analysis, evaluations, designs, and implementation for mechanical systems
  • Work through construction support issues with design team and contractors
  • Accept technical guidance from designers, technologists, and senior staff
  • Occasional site visits as required
  • Other tasks as assigned by Mechanical Leads or Mechanical Division Manager

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in Architectural Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technician Diploma programs,
  • Eligible for an 8-month co-op/internship registered through a post-secondary school,
  • Experience in design and drafting considered an asset,
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Autodesk suites (AutoCAD),
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills,
  • Effective team member,
  • Commitment to ongoing professional and personal growth; willingness to learn,
  • Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities, and
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision and in a team environment

Compensation:

This is a full-time temporary position with a competitive salary. SBM offers a positive working environment and a good relationship with our employees translates directly to better customer service and a superior finished product for our clients. The successful candidate will typically work 8am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 8am-2:30pm on Fridays.
