We are seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join our team in Whitby!

Position Summary

Assists field management in all field operations to construct the project. Oversees on-site construction activities and ensures project plans and schedule are followed and that the project is executed effectively, to the required quality, safely, and within budget. Responsible for a group of activities and oversees subcontractors and manages the work.

Key Responsibilities

• Works with site superintendent and lead project manager, implements MPX’s SHEQ management systems and record-keeping requirements
• Sets high standards of SHEQ behaviour and lead by example at all times by complying with the all applicable regulations for HSE Occupational Health and Safety Act & Ontario Construction Regulations (213/91)
• Takes positive action to correct poor SHEQ practices, which reinforces the message in Multiplex Construction Canada’s management systems
• Supervises and directs direct and indirect reports
• Takes necessary progressive disciplinary actions when needed
• Builds relationships with union and labor representatives
• Manage and be the first point of contact for any area of temporary works that are delegated to them by the Senior Superintendent
• Liaises between site coordinators and project managers to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications
• Contributes to the development and implementation of the Construction Management Plan and assists with resource-loaded three-week lookahead schedules
• Reviews and understands the contract and subcontracts, including understanding risk and risk mitigation plans
• Maintains project administration correspondence, and complies with documentation requirements
• Assists in completing required Quality management requirements:

– Daily Site Diary

– Project Deliverables

– Inspection and Test Plan (ITP)

– Planned Prevention

– Deficiency Management

Education & Experience

• 3 years of experience in a site coordinator position or lead hand/foreman role preferred
• Journeyman certificate or postsecondary diploma/ engineering degree in a related discipline
• Working towards NCSO designation
• Recommended: enrolled in the Gold Seal program as an intern (CDN) preferred

Required Skills

• Knowledge of construction industry, construction trades and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures
• Understanding of project scope and ability to apply basic engineering principles to resolve constructability challenges
• Understanding of project schedules and ability to identify the critical path
• Knowledge and understanding of scheduling software
• Ability to coordinate multiple scopes of a construction project, including scheduling, monitoring, and coordinating self-perform work and trade contractors with three-week lookahead schedules
• Ability to create a detailed labour forecast for upcoming month
• Understanding of productivity rates and Labor Cost Reports, and ability to interpret cost reports
• Understanding of material, labour, and equipment take offs
• Understanding of contract language with the ability to identify and mitigate risks, and identify and leverage opportunities
• Ability to lead and run effective site meetings with client, consultants, trades, self-perform work, and internal employees
• Knowledge of HSE and environmental principles/procedures/legislation
• Maintaining a strong Health and Safety culture
• Familiar with and/or ability to understand virtual construction software and tools
• Working knowledge of and/or ability to learn Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, and ability to interpret Procedure Administration Manual (PAM)
