Hamilton Health Sciences Looking for Social Worker – Pediatric Emergency Department at Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Full Time

Through in-depth psychosocial assessments, the Social Worker will identify child and family strengths, stressors, problem-solving abilities, dynamics, interactions, attitudes, feelings and cultural issues in relation to the needs of the acute patient and family visit in an emergency department setting. The Social Worker will work collaboratively with the team to perform interdisciplinary assessments aimed at developing and implementing a plan of intervention, which addresses education, coping and compliance. This will be achieved through a variety of modalities including individual and family interview, mental health assessments, consultation, crisis intervention, patient and family education, community outreach and advocacy. The Social Worker will identify and make referrals to appropriate supports and resources and assist families in accessing financial assistance programs when necessary.

• Current Certificate of Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
• Masters of Social Work degree from an accredited School of Social Work
• Demonstrated excellence in interview skills and ability to provide comprehensive and timely psycho-social, mental health and risk assessments, and then develop and undertake a plan of action based on the assessment
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and provide crisis intervention
• Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated excellent teamwork skills
• Knowledge of community resources and referral processes
• Proven ability to organize, priorities and problem solve effectively and ethically
• Familiarity with the Mental Health Act, Consent to Treatment Act, Substitute Decisions Act and Child and Family Services Act
