Job Title: Commercial Cabinet Maker
Job Summary:
A Commercial Cabinet Maker in Ontario is a skilled professional responsible for designing, constructing, and installing custom cabinets and other wooden fixtures in commercial settings within the province. This role combines woodworking expertise, craftsmanship, and adherence to local building codes and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Blueprint Interpretation: Review and interpret architectural plans and design specifications to ensure compliance with Ontario building codes and regulations.
Material Selection: Choose appropriate wood, plywood, laminates, and hardware, considering local suppliers and regulations, to meet project design and budget requirements.
Woodworking Skills: Utilize various woodworking tools and machinery, such as saws, routers, and sanders, to accurately cut, shape, and assemble wood pieces.
Joinery Techniques: Employ precise joinery techniques, such as dadoes, mortise and tenon joints, and dovetails, to construct durable and visually appealing cabinets.
Finishing and Coating: Apply finishes, stains, paints, or laminates while adhering to environmental and safety regulations in Ontario to achieve the desired appearance and durability.
Quality Control: Conduct thorough inspections of completed cabinets to ensure they meet design specifications and adhere to Ontario’s safety and quality standards.
Installation: Safely transport and install cabinets at commercial sites within Ontario, ensuring they are level, securely anchored, and compliant with local regulations.
Modifications and Repairs: Perform on-site modifications, adjustments, or repairs in accordance with Ontario’s building codes and safety standards.
Health and Safety: Strictly adhere to safety protocols and guidelines in both the workshop and on job sites to prevent accidents and injuries, complying with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Communication: Collaborate effectively with clients, designers, and project managers while maintaining clear communication and alignment with project goals and timelines.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of materials used, project progress, and any changes or modifications made during the construction process, which may be required for compliance with local regulations.
Qualifications:
Education and Training:
A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Many cabinet makers receive formal training through apprenticeships or vocational programs in woodworking or cabinetry. Continuing education and certifications related to Ontario’s building codes and safety regulations may also be advantageous.
