Major Activities of the Job:

Perfor m equipmen t an d facilit y maintenanc e i n and around the animal facilities while ensuring adherenc e t o cGMP and safety guidelines:

  • Organization and preparation of caging; ensuring clean, functional and adequate caging or other equipment used in the facilities; communicate issues with caging,equipment or facilities in a timely manner; carcass removal and disposal.

Perfor m genera l housekeepin g duties in an d aroun d anima l facilities:

  • Perform general housekeeping duties in and around facility work areas such as animal rooms, office areas, staff areas, corridors, storage rooms, procedure rooms, cage wash areas, external storage areas (ie. external facility areas, loading docks, barn or sheds). These duties include washing floors, walls, work surfaces, windows, maintenance of cleaning equipment, filling feed bins, monitoring and changing of animal room air filters, cleaning of freezers and fridges, organizing staff laundry supplies, etc.

Perform cage washin g an d relate d activities:

  • Cleaning and disinfection of equipment through tunnel washers/rack washers,changing animal drop pans, cleaning animal housing rooms and other related facility areas.

Assis t i n maintainin g adequat e inventor y fo r animal feed, bedding, cleaning supplies, chemicals , gownin g material s an d anima l enrichmen t supplies:

  • Monitor and determineweekly requirements for such supplies as feed and bedding.

  • Report requirements for other routine use supplies such as cleaning agents, gowning materials, chemicals and enrichment supplies.

Timel y completio n o f require d documentatio n and administrative suppor t i n th e animal facilities:

  • Ensure animals are correctly identified upon arrival.

  • Ensure all general facility and animal room documentation is completed in a timely manner.

  • Maintain thorough and updated documentation of personal training. Ensure chemical expiry dates are transferred to containers in use.

  • Review and respond to Company-related e-mail, as required and assist with filing,as required.

  • Timely completion of required documentation and administrative support in theanimal facilities while ensuring that cGXP is maintained.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum six (6) months grade 12 (community college or equivalent) in sciences and a minimum of six (6) months previous relevant work experience.

  • Preferred grade 12 (community College or equivalent) degree in sciences or min ARLAT (Canadian Association of Laboratory Animal Science).

  • Animal Disease Control

  • GXP

  • Safety Guidelines (including Biohazards)- Awareness of MSDS, zoonosis.

  • Computer Skills

  • Organization, Oral/Written Communications

  • Teamwork

  • Innovation/Problem Solving Skills

Hours Of Work:

  • Inclusive from Monday to Friday 6:30 AM – 2:30 PM ​
