The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Instructor with outstanding teaching contributions and a collaborative team and a student-centered attitude. Reporting to the Academic Chair in Academic Upgrading, you will be responsible for teaching a course in COMM 006 (Grades 6 to 9English literacy) to students in the Indigenous Foundations Program (IFP). Program Term: 4 March – 14 June 2024

Course Dates/Times: Tuesday 9-10.50 AM, Wednesday 1-2.50 PM, Friday 9-10.50 AM

The Role

  • Implement innovative teaching methods that promote student engagement and inclusivity
  • Utilize trauma-informed teaching practices to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity in teaching Indigenous students
  • Incorporate Indigenous perspectives into the curriculum and create an inclusive learning environment
  • Incorporate applied learning strategies to enhance student understanding, engagement, and application of concepts
  • Evaluate students’ progress and provide timely, formative feedback
  • Provide ongoing academic support, guidance and advice to learners
  • Familiarize students with available SAIT supports and make referrals as needed

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience teaching or working in Indigenous settings or completion of studies in Indigenous Education
  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or related discipline; a Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) is considered an asset
  • Experience teaching English Literacy to adult learners is essential, particularly at lower grade levels (lower than grade 10)
  • Minimum of 3 years post-secondary teaching experience teaching high school equivalency courses. Experience teaching in high school is an asset
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • Excellent ability to manage time and prioritize responsibilities
