The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Instructor with outstanding teaching contributions and a collaborative team and a student-centered attitude. Reporting to the Academic Chair in Academic Upgrading, you will be responsible for teaching a course in COMM 006 (Grades 6 to 9English literacy) to students in the Indigenous Foundations Program (IFP). Program Term: 4 March – 14 June 2024

Course Dates/Times: Tuesday 9-10.50 AM, Wednesday 1-2.50 PM, Friday 9-10.50 AM

The Role

Implement innovative teaching methods that promote student engagement and inclusivity
Utilize trauma-informed teaching practices to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity in teaching Indigenous students
Incorporate Indigenous perspectives into the curriculum and create an inclusive learning environment
Incorporate applied learning strategies to enhance student understanding, engagement, and application of concepts
Evaluate students’ progress and provide timely, formative feedback
Provide ongoing academic support, guidance and advice to learners
Familiarize students with available SAIT supports and make referrals as needed

Qualifications & Experience

Experience teaching or working in Indigenous settings or completion of studies in Indigenous Education
Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or related discipline; a Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) is considered an asset
Experience teaching English Literacy to adult learners is essential, particularly at lower grade levels (lower than grade 10)
Minimum of 3 years post-secondary teaching experience teaching high school equivalency courses. Experience teaching in high school is an asset
Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
Excellent ability to manage time and prioritize responsibilities
