About the Role

Brookfield Renewable is looking for a Financial Revenue Accountant who enjoys a fast-paced environment and can multi-task in a growing and dynamic accounting department. As a Financial Revenue Accountant under our Business Services Group, your role will have a strong focus on Accounting for the Trading and Marketing functions of our renewable energy business.

You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records while recording daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting transactions with oversight from your Senior Accountant and Management team. You will collaborate closely with a multitude of internal and external business partners having the opportunity to put your communication and relationship management skills to use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compile data from TRM and Alteryx for settled energy financial swap revenues, both internal and external, and prepare excel supports and invoice to customers during month end;
  • Prepare weekly and quarterly management reporting of Accounts Receivable aging for all operating entities and working with the settlements team to facilitate collections efforts for past due accounts;
  • Manage Back Office email which includes the collection and organization of incoming requests and information from external and internal counterparties relating to energy forward swap financial revenues. This includes external customers and brokers as well as the internal Settlements and Trading teams;
  • Manage and ensure timely processing and payment of all broker fees and invoices on a monthly basis; Reconcile any variances between broker invoices and TRM records;
  • Manage US sales tax registrations and certificates in States with new and ongoing business; Prepare and file Canadian and US sales tax;
  • Record bank transactions for the energy trading and marketing entities and reconcile bank accounts including collateral accounts; Prepare and complete bank deposits
  • Prepare, monitor, and invoice annual Power Agency and Management Agreement fees;
  • Prepare and work with Treasury to complete monthly interco settlements;
  • Complete monthly and quarterly accounting entries, such as prepaid amortization and accruals, in a multi-currency environment and accurately maintain workbooks and account reconciliations;
  • Contribute to the successful implementation and execution of Revenue based SOX controls;
  • Provide year-end audit support and field questions and requests from the auditors;
  • Support the team with process documentation and enhancements;
  • Take ownership of the quarterly trading and marketing reporting pack at the corporate level and contribute to the quarterly North American reporting package;
  • Support monthly and quarterly variance analysis.

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • 2+ years’ experience performing full-cycle accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent in relevant work experience;
  • Pursuit of CPA designation considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS and US GAAP is an asset);
  • Experience with revenue accounting considered an asset;
  • Strong MS Excel skills (including vlookup and pivot tables) with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines, particularly around month and quarter end close;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize competing responsibilities while working in a very fast paced, dynamic, high-volume team environment;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply sound professional judgment under pressure;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required;
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Flexibility to work additional hours when needed at quarter end or during peak periods or while completing special projects;
  • Experience with Financial Systems such IFS, Blackline and OneStream or similar systems will be desired.

Note: Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Brookfield’s identity. This position requires the employee to be on-site for a minimum of 3 days to perform most effectively. We will reassess the approach on a as needed basis.
