ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
To ensure safe transportation of people and product to remote locations within Ontario Northland’s rail network.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise unionized staff in the Light/Heavy Repair Cochrane Coach Shop
- Responsible for a staff compliment of approximately 7 direct reports and 35 indirect reports
- Ensure tasks are completed to specification and within scheduling and time standards
- Ensure employees work safely and efficiently in a positive work environment
- Assign work schedules and tasks for trades people, engine attendants and cleaners
- Determine training and development needs, coach and mentor
- Determine and recommend disciplinary action as required
- Participate in the recruitment process
- Hold regular staff meetings relating to health & safety related issues
- Complete all necessary administrative duties associated with the position including computer system entries to track equipment, maintenance, costs, etc.
- Schedule and oversee daily and routine inspections on coaches and related equipment
- Oversee building maintenance and schedule repair as required
- Schedule inspections of fall arrest equipment and cranes
- Source and order special material needed for project completion
- Recommend efficiency improvements within department
- Available beyond the normal working hours including after hour calls as required
REQUIREMENTS:
- Secondary School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
- Trade Certification in either Railway Car Technician (268R), Electrician – Construction and Maintenance 309A, Automotive Service Technician 310S or Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician 421A
- 1 – 2 years’ experience in planning and sourcing information for repairs and standards
- 1 – 2 years’ railway experience and/or strong mechanical background
- Previous supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment
- Have a solid understanding of collective agreements
- Must have sound knowledge of railway operations, locations and equipment
- Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Suite
- Committed to Company Health and Safety
