Finlandia Cooperative Seeking Manager for the Hoito Market Kitchen
Wage range: $21.00 – $25.00 per hour, based on 15-20 hours per week.
The Finlandia Cooperative of Thunder Bay (FCTB) is looking for a person with a unique skill set that includes restaurant management or multi-position (Front of House & Back of House) experience, an entrepreneurial nature, and a community development outlook.
The ability to manage a small but busy kitchen staff of the Hoito Market Kitchen at the Thunder Bay Country Market, and direct them in the delivery of quality food will ensure success in this position. If you possess the necessary energy and drive, we want to meet you!
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
Staff Management and Training: Oversee hiring, training, and management of front-of-house and kitchen staff in collaboration with the Head Cook. Develop and enforce work procedures and culture standards through a comprehensive handbook. Ensure staff adherence to service and food quality standards.
Operational Oversight: Act as a primary representative of the market stall, fostering positive relationships with customers and vendors. Support the Head Cook in menu creation, maintaining legacy recipes, and implementing specials. Manage cash handling and deposits during market days. Coordinate with the Thunder Bay Country Market Manager for promotional activities and with the FCTB for event organization. Make operational efficiency suggestions to the FCTB board.
Quality Control and Inventory Management: Monitor and critique food and beverage quality alongside the Head Cook. Oversee inventory tracking and maintenance, including food, beverages, kitchen supplies, and merchandise like shirts and hoodies.
Financial and Administrative Responsibilities: Schedule staff and manage labour costs according to budget, adjusting as needed for business fluctuations. Handle payroll documentation, employee-related paperwork, and some administrative duties for the Finlandia Cooperative of Thunder Bay. Prepare and present monthly financial and operational reports to the board. Develop current and potential business opportunities and revenue streams.
Marketing and Community Engagement: Develop and publish engaging social media content.
Compliance and Safety: Maintain cleanliness and comply with all food safety and sanitation regulations. Ensure staff training in Safe Food Handling and Workplace Safety is up to date.
Additional Responsibilities: Cover shifts as necessary, participate in board meetings, and undertake other duties as assigned.
Wages will be determined on a case by case basis of the successful applicant.

Job Type: Part-time, 1 year contract to begin, with the possibility to developing into a full-time, permanent position.
Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
