Payroll and Benefits Administrator
Full-time, Permanent
As the Payroll and Benefits Administrator, you are responsible for providing exceptional administrative support and payroll processing for faculty, staff, sessional instructors, and students employed on campus. In this position, you provide benefits coordination including accurate administration and direct communication regarding coverage and payroll deductions. In this position, you are an active member of the Human Resources team.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Payroll and Benefits Administration
· Semimonthly payroll processing for faculty, staff, sessional instructors, and students employed by CMU.
· Create approval documents for payroll functions.
· Prepare monthly payroll entry.
· Handle communications with CMU faculty, staff, sessional instructors, and students employed by CMU regarding
payroll and benefits information.
· Create documents for payroll functions and develop proactive solutions and documentation regarding payroll
analysis and accounting processes.
· Coordinate and execute sessional faculty payments with the Academic office.
· Maintain, reconcile, and update employee salary and benefit records, ensure payroll is reconciled to the salary
budget on a semi-monthly basis.
· Maintain accurate and up to date employee records and accruals.
· Payroll reporting for Green Team grants, government grants, and other third-party grants.
· Provide payroll-related information and support to grant recipients.
· Complete month end and year end payroll related reporting and reconciliations; conduct T4 process.
· Make remittances to CRA for source deductions to the Workers Compensation Board, Manitoba Payroll Tax, and
benefits.
· Perform reconciliations for WCB, payroll tax, and CMU benefit deductions.
· Assist in the year-end process and audit, providing payroll and benefit documentation.
Human Resources
· Conduct onboarding administration for new employees including new hire information and benefit processing.
· Conduct termination administrative procedures.
· Obtain accurate employee information and file payroll information in personnel files, while ensuring
confidentiality and strict adherence to PIPEDA.
· Support the Director of Human Resources with applicable HR projects related to payroll, benefits, and legislative
requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works with standard office equipment and sits for extended periods of time performing keyboarding activities. This position works in a stable office-oriented work environment and actively communicates and works alongside others. Mild fatigue related to sensory demands may be experienced, such as focused periods of concentration.
QUALIFICATIONS
· A commitment to the Christian faith, the church, and the mission of CMU.
· Member of the Canadian Payroll Association, completion of the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), and the
Certified Payroll Manager (CPM).
· Education in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
· Canadian Payroll Association license preferred.
· Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in payroll and benefit administration.
· Demonstrated knowledge of payroll and benefit systems; experience with Avanti payroll system an asset.
· Capable of managing a high volume of work within tight deadlines.
· Excellent knowledge of employment and payroll legislation.
· Sound verbal and written communication skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
· High organizational, administrative, and time management skills; ability to work in a fact-paced environment.
· Proven diplomacy, tact, and understanding of sensitive and confidential HR issues.
· Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
