The Demolition Projects Transportation Coordinator is accountable for all equipment and material move via truck, both in Alberta and British Columbia. Responsibilities include sourcing trucks for specific project goals, negotiating routes with trucking companies, managing transportation RFPs, and organizing movement of material and equipment based on project requirements and timelines.
Primary Responsibilities:
Continuously source and groom trucking companies capable of delivering specific project requirements (flat bed with or without side kits, super Bs, demo trailers, equipment movers, etc…). Educate transportation vendors on Oil and Gas and Mining safety and induction needs.
Evaluate and rank trucking companies for capabilities based on past experience. Maintain strong relationship with preferred haulers.
Quote, dispatch and track mobilization and demobilization of RSR processing equipment between project sites (shears, loaders, excavators, material handlers, bobcats, etc…). Understand project sites specific requirement and ensure the carrier is ready to meet these expectations prior to coming on site.
Create Transportation Plan for demolition and recovery projects and modify the plan based on project requirements.
Spot quote or create RFPs for truck movement of scrap material between project site and RSR yards or Steel Mill. Ensure quality of service and client site’s requirements are being adhered to.
Provide freight rates to Project Manager and Business Development Manager during the quotation and planning step of the project.
Manage transportation modes (backhauls, premium backhauls or dedicated trucks) based on project requirements and minimize transportation cost to the project.
Review and approve transportation invoices to ensure proper charges have been applied by transportation companies.
Negotiate settlements on disputed charges with transportation vendors.
Ensure all paperwork and forms required for outbound shipments are prepared accurately and in a timely manner (liaison with Project Managers, SMEs, Dispatchers and Accounting Staff).
Report transportation KPIs to Transportation Manager and Project Managers.
Forecast transportation needs for the Demolition and Recovery team and work with the rest of the transportation team to overcome obstacles.
Manage and schedule internal RSR drivers and company-owned transportation equipment.
Requirements
College Diploma in Business, Logistics, or similar field. Related experience, training, education or some combination of all three may be considered.
3-5 years of traffic coordination management experience in a project-based industry.
Strong oral and written communication skills, as the majority of communication with trucking companies will be over the phone and email.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Must be computer literate and familiar with appropriate software programs. Ability to create visual aids for communication purposes. Proven skills Microsoft Excel and Word software.
Additionally, this position requires the ability to work under time pressure to meet deadlines and to be able to operate with minimal day-to-day direction, be able to work from general guidelines and be able to make the majority of decisions needed to successfully carry out assigned duties and projects.
