Production Packer (afternoon/evening shift)

(Chilliwack)

The primary role of the Production Packer is to provide critical support in reducing production down time, assisting Production Supervisor or Line Lead Hand in planning and supporting the production staff in a manner that creates engagement and productivity within the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Supports the Puratos safety and quality system by implementing and following procedures, enforcing GMP requirements, and participating in training.
  • As necessary, performs tasks in order to meet daily targets and fills in for breaks, as well as scheduled and unscheduled absences.
  • Able to work unsupervised, as well as working together with others
  • Must we capable of bending and or lifting 60 lbs
  • Respond appropriately to emergency/unscheduled equipment issues and trouble shoot problems, making a determination if Maintenance needs to be called to address the issue.
  • Practice and enforce QA, HACCP, Food Safety, and SQF 2000 requirements in all aspects of production operation.
  • Assists in developing SOPs and Standard Work documentation processes and tasks for essential day-to-day operations, train to SOPs, and ensure employee adherence to SOPs when performing job responsibilities and tasks.
  • Actively participates in toolbox meetings with other staff.
  • Ensures a respectful, safe, and healthy work environment for staff.
  • Assists with positive cross-functional/departmental relationships.
  • Must be capable of standing a minimum of eight hours
  • Fosters safe work practices by enforcing standard safety procedures and as required develop and implement practical recommendations for safety practices.
  • Assist in the implementation of the company’s health and safety program.
  • Contributes to a continuous improvement environment by recommending measures to improve methods, performance, and quality of processes and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency.
  • Identifies, recommend and implements cost saving measures.
  • Safe handling of chemicals, Manual and/or electrical pallet jacks
  • Be a safety leader, work together with others and look out for others
  • Report all quality and safety issues immediately
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as required.

Hazard and Safety Requirement

  • Materials: This position is responsible for materials including the safe operation of the machine and the handling of product.
  • Safety: This position is responsible for keeping the machine area clean and tidy and free of hazards. The machine has many moving parts, and care must be taken to not to get caught in any mechanisms.
  • Do not remove or make ineffective any protective devices required by the employer or by the regulations
  • Do not use or operate any equipment or work in a way that may endanger any worker
  • Report any known workplace hazard to the employer or supervisor.

Skills, Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Proven record of safety.
  • Good attendance and punctuality.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to communicate one-on-one and in group settings; facilitates positive communication between supervisors and production staff.
  • This position requires proficiency with numbers/basic math
  • Problem solver with good analytical skills and the ability to trouble shoot as the need arises. I.E. Equipment and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Organized in approach to work assignments, practices effective time management, prioritizes tasks, and able to move from one task to another efficiently and accurately.
  • Proven record of safety.
  • Able to work flexible hours and overtime as required.
  • Experience in a culturally diverse work environment.
  • Working proficiency with MS Office applications and Internet applications.

Hourly Rate of Pay $19.48 per hour (this is a unionized position)
