PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This position is responsible for preparation of account analysis and reconciliation, month end close activities and reporting, preparation of journal entries, compliance with SOX and management controls, providing support to NSC Finance teams as required.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
Analyze and determine applicability of financial data while driving to conclusion, making appropriate recommendations and identifying continuous improvement opportunities and efficiencies;
Work with Finance Leadership team to develop metrics and reporting;
Participate in special projects;
Ensure adherence to SOX and Internal Controls;
Assist Manager in ensuring appropriate process documentation of all processes in the (including training materials, audit documents, process documents and work instructions);
Assist the Manager with duties as required;
In conjunction with the Manager, provide leadership to unionized and non unionized staff with respect to accounting practices;
Drive process improvement;
Work with Manager and Director to resolve issues with respect to finance processes;
Ensure process adherence and control compliance;
Responsible to make continuous improvement recommendations to the Manager and Director;
Work with employees in all departments on continuous improvement initiatives;
Work with employees in other departments on special projects;
Other duties as may be assigned;
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduate degree;
Minimum 5 years in a relevant role;
Excellent knowledge of accounting practices;
Project management, change management or continuous improvement training considered an asset;
Working knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable and/or billing practices;
Financial designation (complete or in process) or business degree with financial background considered an asset;
Strong problem solving skills;
Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines and files simultaneously;
Driving for process improvements while maintaining a high level of employee and supplier satisfaction;
Strong interpersonal and oral / written communication skills required;
Focus on providing a high level of service satisfaction to employees, management and suppliers;
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally with persons at all levels.
